My truck has 230,000 miles on it. I'm rebuilding it, bought it as a project. I have to replace the front driver side wheel bearing / hub. Just ordered a Temkin assembly. I see people order new axles with these quite frequently. I'm assuming because is easy to get at.

However, curious it is possible to get rebuild kits for the front axles / CV(s)?

If not is there a good service somebody can do for the front CV(s)?

the boot over it tears and the grease comes out, and the cv joint takes a crap from being dry, the rip also lets in dirt and water.

When I replaced my wheel hub bearings I did a comparison of both sides and found that the passengers inner cv joint had more play to it. No leaking so I doubt it was necessary but I was chasing other issues and didn't want to keep doubting if I didn't change it. Replaced the axle with "new" napa one for the lifetime warranty. Rebuilt unit I almost purchased from them had same amount of play as the one I was replaceing so I went with the new one which had more resistance in its movement.

I have an '07 Tahoe. Are these hard to change out?

I have never changed them out, the front axle shafts. That aside no. Looks like a cinch. I think can be done with out even unbolting the steering nuckle. Saw a guy take off by only jacking tire up and unbolting.

I think my issue is transfer case. Therr are some shot bearings in mine and is making a racket. I think this maybe other folks issues too.

Front CVs can be very easy. Unbolt from the front diff, remove the Nut on the axle side and slide out. I have found on some that the front shock assembly needs to be loose to clear and others not.
