Hi,

My actuator began to sound like gears were stripped but still worked. I replaced with a Dorman that stopped working a few days later. This was replaced with another Dorman that failed a few days later. I have taken all 3 apart and 2 have then stripped gears. I have combined parts to make one that work and greased everything possible, including where the plastic slides in the metal channel.

Is anyone aware of why this is happening? I realize these are somewhat problematic but this seems extreme. The one that was replaced lasted for 5 or 6 yrs. Thanks in advance

I’m assuming he’s talking about the actuator that releases the glass from the tailgate??
What do the lift supports have to do with that?
Thanks. I am referring to the electric hath lock actuator. That lock and unlocks the hatch pull and the button for the window

That’s what I thought. How would his comment of replacing the lift supports help that? I’m so confused with that.

It sounds like something is binding up and not moving easily and stripping the gears. It`s been a few years since i changed mine and can`t recall all the moving parts in there but i would check to see if everything is moving freely.

Just had this same issue few days ago. With the FOB everything locks up except the Tailgate & Glass Liftgate so i suppose it failed on the open position at least. It sounds like some grinding gears etc.

The actuator DORMAN goes for over $100 at AutoZone/Oreillys but on Ebay i seen some like $20 even $12 Free Shipping too good to be true. Im assuming this ACTUATOR is the culprit but Monday or Tuesday im gonna tear it down and let u guys know.

I had an issue with the Dorman and went through three before giving up on them. A cheaper one didn't last long either. I've read a lot of reviews about them not lasting. I finally ordered an OEM used actuator and locking mechanism on eBay for $60. So far so good. I would avoid the Dorman and the cheaper actuators.
