Has anyone had trouble with the new Massachusetts Inspection regulations?

on anything 2000+ all they do here is plug it in the computer, look underneath to be sure you have cat's and 02 sensors, if there's no codes it passes and your on your way, they could care less about anything else. and this is bi-annual or whenever you sell/transfer, also if you show you spent at least $500 trying to fix it you get a one time pass.
Except for the $500 thing, Jersey is the same way.

NJ has come a long way, inspection back in the day was like a trip to ****** land.

after i put headers on my regal i still had no cat, figured wtf ill try to pass.

they drove over the floor cam, guy stops, goes back and fourth 5 times, then calls everyone over to help look for my missing cat. yup i failed. they were even under the hood, they failed to see the open evap line there, the egr is missing too. all stuff they should know about lol and the 25 codes i got deleted. only thing i need to wait to become "ready" is my 02 sensor. and once i went and failed cause it was not ready yet, so i drove that mile home, deleted bank one sensor one, went back 15 minutes later and passed, went home un-deleted it lol

got to love a free state ran inspection tho. you can go to a shop and pay, but why would you?

heres how scaled back they are now. when i got the regal it had bald tires a shattered d/s side view mirror, and the abs light on and i passed. abs lights been on since i got it. pass every time like that too.

I used to do inspections in Eatontown, what a joke. I had people come in with no brake lights, broken windshields, bald tires with steel cord coming out, metal on metal brakes--No Lie--As long as there wasn't a check engine light lit, and had a cat, you passed. We had to take a 2 week class and we were taught just because it passed didn't mean it was legal, according to NJ law. They don't ever pop the hood anymore, and even if they did, they have no idea what the hell they're even looking at.
So you could issue a valid inspection sticker, but the person could still get cited for whatever was wrong by the cops. I remember back in the day the inspections guys used to torture our cars. I'm surprised any would pass!

they still pop the hood for pre obd2 cars, seen a guy with a old ass honda, hood open, thing was running like crap too, they had the engine hooked up to a scanner and a sniffer in his tail pipe, some how he passed, guy looked like he wanted to do a back flip he was so happy lol

in the 80's i failed for faded rear view mirror, and rust on the bumper.

my old 70 firebird failed for emissions one time, i pulled over right outside the building, popped my hood and leaned out the mixture screws, backed up to second chance and passed lol guy seen what i did too. didnt seem to care.

I don't remember seeing anyone ever pop a hood where I was, but I wasn't paying attention either lol.

My emissions is always good popped, the attachment at the tailpipe. Usually 60ish bucks every two years to renew tags. Lame.... lol. But at least that’s all it is. He doesn’t look at anything else thankfully. Never a full vehicle inspection. And he’s always like “as longs as it’s not showing any codes it’ll pass.”

NY started the video thing 10 yrs ago-ish... its a novelty and will wear off in year or 2 then ‘inspectors’ will start slacking off and youll get by. Jan ‘17 NY just started enforcing tint laws at inspection stations that have been on the books for years but never really taken seriously... certain places care others dont... until they are fined... this too shall come to pass

The last time i went to the shop i used to work at i asked where the camera was on the inspection computer and my friend told me they stopped the video BS because it was an invasion of privacy. I couldn`t find anything to back it up but the camera was gone.
