1st post.

close to pulling the trigger on a 2018 5.3. Drop is first, exhaust next. On to my question.

I want to put a supercharger on this thing. I have fabed a turbo 5.0, and sprayed a 5.0, 240z etc.

I'm seeing a lot of screw compressors on the Tahoes. Is there a reason? I'm not a fan of water to air intercoolers, or meth injection on a Daily driver. might as well spray a charge of NOX to cool at higher boost levels..

The centrifugal (procharger) seems to have a more complete package.

Though the torque curve will not even be close. Why do I not see folks running centrifugals on the Tahoes 5.3?

I really havnt found a screw/whipple that is complete with a tune or tuner.

Pros - Cons? real world experience..

Just checked and the edelbrock kit requires sending in your ECM on 17+ cars. That sucks.

The biggest thing is what you mentioned. the tq curve. with these heavy trucks you want the low end grunt. there are money brands that are a complete package.

if interested we offer the Edelcrock E-Force Superchargers that uses the TVS 2300 which is a great proven blower unit

How long is the install realistically?

Just learned that Justin cannot do them either. So what happens now? Install a blower and the truck sits while you send the ECM out? Or can you purchase another ECM prior to the install? As my daily this really sucks!!

A long work day I think would be realistic as long as your mechanically inclined and know your way around your truck

I believe for now everyone with 17-18 needs to flash the ECM to tune. I myself would get another ECM

being i dont fear tuning things myself. id get a hptuner and get to work learning a few things. gonna need a wideband gauge too if you diy tune it.

biggest part of the tune will be cutting your timing in 1/2.

a e85 swap over would be great too if its in your area, if not, get a meth kit and tune it in right, makes a world of a difference. it makes your octane rating about 106 with 93 pump gas aka kr killer, and cools the air charge, more kr killing. with more timing.

i added meth to my 3800 l67 build, had a ic before the meth and was able to run a 3.2 pulley @ 14º wot. added meth went right to a 2.8 pulley and 18º wot. and 5 lbs more boost. making about 12-13 depends on how cold it is out. 100% kr free too.

if you dont know what kr is, its knock retard, its what will destroy your pistons. they chip, eat a spark plug. then blow in to pieces if you keep at it.

if you cant find real meth local, -20 washer fluid works, but not nearly as good as 50/50 real meth.

ill also add, my blower is a old school heaton you could fry a egg on it after a pass at the track, never mind touch it, even with a ic. with meth i can lay my hand on it and leave it there all day after a pass, its only warm.

if you go meth, i recommend the aem kit with a progressive boost controller. it works damn good and is not hard to install.

Yup, all depends on where you want boost. Centri won't do what a roots style will and vice versa. More power potential with the Centri but the majority of people who're slapping a SC on the trucks just want to get it up to speed faster, which they do a hell of a job of...on stock converter, stock fuel, stock gears etc

Ive used an aquamist meth system on my other car for a few months now, i buy 99.9% from vp racing fuels and mix up a 80/20. Spray post turbo tho, since that's where most of the heat is generated. On a roots style I'm sure it's still effective. But I think you run into some odd rotor effeciencies as you're changing the temp and baro pressure while spraying. It's a viable supplimental fuel (stock DI injectors flow enough for 550-600 hp iirc)and as said before cools charge and increases octane , reducing kr.

We are able to tune anybody up to this point however at the end of the day February 15th, there is a big unknown regarding 2017+ models. If everything proceeds as normal, we will resume shipping AutoCals for 2017+ customers. This also includes Supercharger customers. This is not a new process with BBP, this is a new process by GM that could potentially impact everybody.

As always, due to the unpredictable length of time needed to gain access to the ECM, we are not able to tune 17+ in person, at our tune events, that would be done via our AutoCal.

This is a brand new truck, no way I am attempting this myself to be honest.

What exactly is the Auto Cal?
