Hey folks, just joined from NC. Joined the Tahoe forum yesterday, and a guy from Miami Dade told me this one was a little more active.

I have a question about tire sizes. My 99 Tahoe 4x4 had 235/16's on it when I got it about 5 or 6 yrs ago. I was looking at a set of Michelins, and they said the standard size is 245/16. The optional size is 265/16. Can anyone give me an idea of what the difference will be w/265's? It seems like the way to go but I'd like to hear some feedback.

Standard 245/75/16's are 30.45" tall, optional 265/70/16's are the same height, while 265/75/16's are 31.6" tall.

265/75's will fit with ZERO modifications, you can even go up to 285/75/16's (32.8") on your factory rims with only turning the torsion bars up to level.

Bob welcome to the forum from Georgia Dawg country. Good advise from previous post from BigDaddy13440. When in doubt check your tire label on driver door jam, Keeping the OBS'S going.

Thanks BigDaddy, I'm more concerned with the driveability factor. The taller tires do look better to me though.

Driveability is probably better with the 265's, a little more meat on the ground (wider footprint), and more meat in the sidewall (better "bounce"). If you go up to the 285's, you'll gain more of "both", but it'll be negated by the marginally harsher ride of cranking your torsion bars. 305/70/16's will also fit (same height as the 285's), but about 3/4" wider.

On my OBS Tahoe, I had my bars cranked almost to the max with 285's, but my wheels were 16x8's, and stuck out 1 1/4" further than stock. I rubbed the rear of the front fender, and hit the bumper. Nothing a little Sawzall didn't take care of!!!
