When the truck was on and hooked through the radio the amp wouldn't turn on, I'd rather just get a switch for now until I can get a more permanent solution

If you are going to do that, it may be just as easy to find a fuse in the driver's side dash fuse box and just shove the remote wire into one that is only hot when the Tahoe is on.

I just know if it were me, I would forget the first day to turn the switch off and I would be stranded. lol

This. Just hook to the accessory, red wire behind the radio. Then it only has power when key on.
