Picked this up today. Traded our 06 yukon xl for it. 2011 2500 suburban, 47,000 mi. Just in time to pull our camper to our dautghers softball tournament next weekend. See what the difference will be.

Thanks guys. The wife already loves this thing. She likes how large it looks and the engine sounds so much more beefy than her old yukon. Looking to do some upgrades soon. Tint the windows, leveling kit, etc.

How much more can the 2500 tow over the 1500? Also the difference is in the suspension only right?

Well, Ridculous. My 06 Yukon xl was only rated to about 5000lbs towing. It has the 5.3l and the 3.42 gears. Compared to the Burb thats rated at 9400 to 9600lbs with the 3.73 gears. And the suspension is beefer.

Suspension and brakes are better. The limiting factor is still the hitch on the GMT900 that is tied into the bumper. If you frame mount a hitch (like Duraburb does) it will be much more rigid, and easily tow more.

Looks like a nice upgrade. I was trying to find a GMT900 when we bought ours, but they all sold quickly. I am happy with the GMT800, 4.10 gears and 12,000 lb tow rating though :)

Can you buy or mod the current hitch and suspension on the Yukon to get the larger tow rating? I already have upgraded the engine and brakes on my 2005 yukon denali but want to be safe if I tow more than 7000 lbs.

No you can't. You can buy a hitch that is rated for more, but that doesn't actually increase your tow rating.
