Hey all, just picked up a really clean 2007 Tahoe LTZ with 113k miles. I had a 2002 Tahoe years ago and loved it. Here are some items I am addressing right away,, some of these appear to be rather common especially for the first year 07s

1. I hate the fake wood.. I plan to remove the pieces and have a buddy who owns them wrap them in brushed metallic. Like the Z71s have. I assume all the trim pieces pop out relatively easy?

2. Dash has a crack

3. Driver's side exterior door handle has came loose. Replace or Gorilla Glue?

4. There is an annoying interior noise coming from the rear.. not a rattle and not sure where it is coming from exactly.. any known areas to check?

5. Power running boards do not work. Stuck down. I saw they were unplugged and no fuse so I assume they had worked intermittently at one point. I plugged them in, added a fuse, used some WD40 and they kind of work. I got them to go back up with a little manual pushing. But the motors appear weak so for now I am removing fuse again with them up. Likely need new motors?

6. The driver power seat only works when no one is in the seat.. or I should clarify, with a light weight person.. like my 15 yr old daughter.. it works fine.. sensor of some sort?

7. Finally, there is a smell of what seems to be burnt wire or maybe coolant when exiting vehicle. Any known issues here? Not seeing any fluids on ground and it is not overheating or anything like that.

Sorry for writing a book here! Appreciate any replies or insight.

1. Wrap or hydrodip

2. Everyone else has one too. It will get worse and crack more. Have to replace. Replace with the updated version. There are 2 VERSIONS. The also make hard plastic covers that goes over the dash. Look silly but they have them.

3. Just replace it. Amazon has a lot of OEM parts. (If you use super glue they say adding baking soda to it makes it dry harder and faster).

4. Mine was the head rest on the rear passenger seat. Hard to trace noise down. Wife needs to drive and you should sit in the back.

5. Yes

6. Bad motors and the gear strips I think. Mine are stuck too totally. Won't go up or down. Only front/ back

7. Look at the heater hoses that go up towards the firewall on the PASSENGER side. There are plastic 3 way connectors there. They slowly leak but don't drip till they get really bad.

replace the door handles. you can replace the whole set for $60

power seat probably either needs to have tracks greased or a new seat motor installed

If you're getting a coolant smell check out the radiator or see if the water pump is seeping coolant.

....and my dash has never cracked but is common. replace dash board.

...Replace with the updated version. There are 2 VERSIONS.

This is news to me. Great news, at that. After all the reading I've done on these things, not once have I ever ran across anything mentioning an updated design. You have a part number? Old vs. new pics?

...If you use super glue they say adding baking soda to it makes it dry harder and faster.

You're just full of good info today! We should call you Heloise.

Nice! Thanks for all the replies! I am going to pickup a handle at a local junkyard this weekend. I will check on that heater hose as well and the headrest noise. You guys rock. Any other known gotchas or maint to dos and what not I should be aware of? Also, what is the best way to find towing capacity? Google says 6500-7200. The variance due to the axle gear ratio?

Also, my neighbor mentioned something about a known issue on the 07s of oil and engine failure.. more details?

disable AFM asap. That is probably what your neighbor is referring to. Many lifter failures directly related to the AFM garbage. Once disabled it's also common so see oil usage go way down, too. Best way to disable AFM is either via custom tune or a device call the Range device.

OK.. seems Black Bear is the way to go for the tune? Without disabling the AFM is it a gamble? I assume no way to really tell if or when you will have issues? Or tell tale signs leading up to failure? As of now I have no reason to believe the AFM has an issue or will.

For me, the lifter failure was just sudden with no signs leading up to it. To this point, i've not known anyone who's kept their AFM enabled and NOT eventually had an issue at around 135k-150k on the vehicle. It will happen, just a matter of time.

And yes, Black Bear is a can't lose proposition. They tuned my Burb and has been some of the best money I've spent thus far on it.

^^This is good info. I had my 06 Black Bear tuned and love it. I currently have Range device in my 13 and it stays in V8 mode all the time. I still have plans to get the 13 tuned by BB when I can. I know there are ponies tied up in there and as well as just deleting the AFM too. The guys have answered your other questions pretty thoroughly. Good luck.
