Disable air bags?

Can someone please point me in the direction of the correct way to disable the air bags in order to work on the connectors under the dash.

My 04 had a very erratic airbag light, and has codes B0043 and B0044. I need to check the connector on the drivers side, but I don't want to accidentally set off the bags....

Disconnect the battery

Is disconnecting the battery enough? Or is there something that holds a charge for a while that I need to be concerned with?
