cheap tool for pulling the rear axle bearings without damaging the speed sensor.

just got done doing my rear axle bearings and seals, seal was seeping. 155k. eh. not bad.

I searched threads here and some sprial out of control because you need a special gm tool to get behind the bearing, but not damage the reluctor wheel for the speed sensor that's like a 1/4in behind it. the ones I saw most give up and just pull both, and the job turns into a hassle, but still better than buying gm's expensive tool.

just wanted to confirm that there's a 40$ set on Amazon that works well. I got the part number from some other board while searching 10 pages deep into Google lol.

anyways. Hopefully it saves someone some time. I used the timken repair bearings that are bearing and seal all in one and move where the bearing runs on the alxe a bit. I've had good luck with them on other cars. we shall see how they last.

oh this is for the smaller 8.5 rear.

oh yeah, I forgot to follow up. the timken repair bearings were a fail for me with the g80 locker. I've used them on about 4 different gm rear ends with no issues but they either had open or limited slip diff.

issue was I had to push the axles in far enough to get the c clips in, and it seems to have damaged the seals when I did. didn't think much about it at the time but they leaked. so had to hit the dealership to grap some oem seals and pop those in.


tool works good thou, I used it a 2nd time to pull the timkens out haha

Thanks for the info on the tool. My rear bearings seem fine and no leaks but at 320000 miles , I'd say it's about time to replace them.

just a heads up the bearings ride on the axle, there's no internal race, and it's been my experience it's the axle that wears before the bearing rollers. the fixer bearing moves the rollers to a fresh part of the axle, but for me atleast with the g80 locker diff. to get the axle in far enough to install the c clip it damaged the seals. the fixer bearing and seal all in one. I've used them a few times on other cars and had good luck. but not here, open diff might be fine.

so point being, if you get it apart and the bearing is worn enough to replace it, it's probably going to need new axles as well. so I personally wouldn't touch it until it leaks or have all the parts ready to swap. unless downtime is OK for waiting on parts.

mine didn't had half what yours does, but my oem bearings looked OK. so I put them back in with new oem seals and need good so far. if it leaks again I'll be ordering axles.
