Are the resonator and butterfly valve the same thing?

I've read people saying do not remove the resonator if you wish to go drone free when adding a muffler.
However I have also read to get rid of the butterfly valve.
Are they one in the same?

no, 2 diff parts

flap/butterlfy valve is right behind muffler (some also say to screw a bolt into it to disable vs cut it out)

resonator is smaller looking muffler behind axle, past muffler & flap. it just helps reduce drone

Awesome! Thanks so much Jay. Yes, I did the 'bolt mod' on the flapper already. Definitely sounds better with it open.
I just wanted to make sure I wasn't confusing the flapper and resonator as two different items and they were one in the same.
I had Magnaflow cat backs on a G8 and the droning was horrible! I tore the entire OE system off and replaced with Corsa.
However, it appears there is not as much to gain with a full 3" Corsa system over the 3.5" OE set up with Mag and flapper removed.

Thanks again!

well for your 'nali, the OEM 3.5 system was not mandrel bent.
i'd bet flow is maybe slightly better w/ a Corsa catback.

but a catback is only seat of the pants difference.
to get a real difference...match it w/ a CAI & proper tune

$800 better? CAI and BB tune are my next two mods. Having this one completed now because I need an oil change. ;)

its good bang for buck & sets you up for future mods & tunes as long as you own the BBP.

I mean is the Corsa worth $800 more than the Magnaflow muffler install?
It seems one gets rid of the mandrel bent pipe yet also reduces the pipe from 3.5" to 3".

i luv the sound of my Corsa.
gets rid of resonator & flap & has no drone.
(i have 5.3 w/ tvs1900 & corsa)

the stock 5.3 is well under 3", so for me a 3" catback is great.

OEM may have portions that are 3.5, but flow is only as good as the smallest bend.

have you had a chance to get under & check it out?
if not, maybe someone can weigh on that measurement.

if you stay relatively stock, a 3" catback should be more than sufficient.
if you plan to chase HP, get 3.5 or larger

From what I have read, the entire exhaust is 3.5" except at the butterfly flap. That section is 3".
By eliminating the flap (I currently have it pinned open) the entire exhaust should be fully 3.5".
I do agree, Corsa makes a sweet sounding exhaust. I am merely looking for a deeper tone to my truck. I want it to sound more truck, less crossover.
I had a blown G8 with Corsa and that thing sounded like a sprint car when I got on it! I do NOT want my Denali to sound quite like that. lol
