I have had my 2018 Yukon Denali for 2 months and am at 4,725 miles. I do a lot of highway driving. Oil Life is at 37%. Manual recommends oil changes at 7,500 miles.

Is the recommended 7,500 miles good or should I do every 5,000 miles.

thanks,

Mike

Just follow the owner manual instructions,
Dealer will do the same.

This has been discussed before and you will get a lot of different answers, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, send it out to have it analyzed and of course follow the owners manual. Kind of like asking what oil should I use.

Been running my '15 Hoe until 5% is left on the OLM since I bought her new in 2015

No issues.

Oil is 0w-20 AC Delco Full Synthetic

My dealer recommends every 5,000 miles. I thus have it changed every 5,000 miles regardless of the oil life level.

I change mine at 500 miles in a new vehicle and then run Kendall Titanium Full Synthetic at the weight specified by the manufacturer and then change sometime after it hits the 20% mark..

The first change so early is to rid the engine of any flashing or stray metal scraps left over from manufacturing and also get the factory semi-syn oil out.. just old habit, but has served me well over the years.

Today I was at 32% at 5,125. I called the dealer and they said they recommended changing at 30% and noted 30% is when it is covered under the free oil change. They went ahead and did the oil change and tire rotation even though I was at 32% (I had time to bring it in today).

I'm inclined to use and believe the GM Oil Life Monitor. GM has a patented algorithm that monitors actual condition of the oil based on a bunch of different inputs (engine/oil temperature, load, RPM, driving style, etc). It isn't just a count down timer like a lot of other oil change systems. From what I've read it actually corresponds really well to actual life left in the oil when people send samples out to Black Stone Labs for analysis.

In my personal experience, letting the engine fully warm up and doing highway driving gives a lot more miles on the monitor than than short city trips.

I think the question is do you want to wait until it gets to 5% or are you more comfortable changing at 30% or something like that. I personally always changed at the 30%-ish mark. Figure I want to keep my vehicles longer than life the manufacturer expected/designed them to go.
