Newbie to this forum, but not new to the GMT800 platform. This is my first post. I have read and searched and searched some more. I used the search function and I've searched this site using google and I cannot fine a definitive answer to my questions.

I purchased our 2004 5.3L Yukon SLT with ZW7 suspension in December 2018 with 80k miles. At the time of purchase, one of the Nivomat shocks was leaking. I replaced the rear springs with GM OEM standard coil springs and installed Bilstein 5100's front and rear. I also purchased a set of GM Z71 coil springs for a possible future upgrade.

Fast forward to 2023. Our Yukon now has 188k miles. The torsion bars are worn, the Yukon is sagging in the front and the ride quality is terrible. I want to replace the torsion bars and install the Z71 springs in the rear.

I read https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/torsion-bar-tech-101.32545/ . It is an informative thread. In the thread it states "To ID your bars there is a tag on them with a 2 letter code, just match it to the code in the table." I do not necessarily want to go back with the same bars. I want to use torsion bars that were used in the Z71 Tahoe. Can anyone tell me which of the bars listed in Torsion Bar Tech 101 thread were used in the Z71 Tahoe?

Based on this statement in the thread, I believe our Yukon has the "green" keys. "The half ton trucks have the “green” keys in them and the HD trucks the “purple” keys in them. " If I'm understanding correctly, Z71 and non-Z71 Tahoe/Yukon used the same keys. Is that correct? Or is there a Z71 specific key?

Thanks for the help!

You'll probably need to find a Z71 RPO code label from one that is around your year, and check the "6xx" and "7xx" codes for the bars.

For example, my '04 with Premium Smooth Ride has these two codes: 6XK and 7XK. Looking on a GM parts web site like this: https://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts-...ont_suspension_steering/suspension_front.html shows the same ones listed for both 2wd (C) and 4wd (K) using that RPO code.

Here's a snip from that site, showing the first three listed. I've circled the match for one side of mine, and you could do the same for the Z71 codes if you can get someone to post them:

Thanks for replying and educating me about the 6xx and 7xx codes.

I found a VIN number for 2002 Z71 Chevy Tahoe and a 2005 Z71 Chevy Tahoe. According to the GM Parts giant site, the torsion bar part numbers are the same for both.

Left side - 19332929 (code 6XL)
Right side - 19332930 (code 7XL)

Unfortunately, neither are available. Anyone know a source for quality aftermarket equivalents?

I was also able to determine the Z71 and non-Z71 Tahoes use the same green keys (15592573).

I think I'll start a new thread. This one is nearly a month old with one reply.

BTW, thank you Fless for replying. I would not have been able to figure out the part numbers without your help.

OP did you ever get anywhere with this in finding any new bars? Looking for new torsion bars for a Z71 Tahoe myself.
