I've got an 02 LS I picked up last year. It's new tire time, and I'm looking to get a the meatiest tire I can fit on my bone stock setup. I've got the 16x7 wheels. I'm running 265/70/16's now. I'd like to go as wide & as tall as I can get without any mods. Ive been told I can go up to 285/75/16. I figured this was a good place to get an accurate answer. THANKS!

Before I lifted mine I had 285/75r16 on an aftermarket 16x8 so it would stick out slightly farther than the 16x7s and I had no trimming and no rubbing and if you want a meaty look then it's a good size to get.
This is what mine looked like
It's got a huge sidewall and good if you want the meaty look

Other than cranking the stock torsion bars to level, you can most likely fit 305/70/16's on stock wheels. They would be about 3/4" wider than the 285's...

Stock wheels? 285's shouldn't rub. If they do, it'll most likely be on the rear of the fenders and the lower portion of the front valance. A couple turns on the torsion bars will take care of that, trim the valance if necessary. My wheels were 1 1/4" more offset than factory wheels, so they stuck out - even with the 285's, they cleared with only turning the factory t-bars to level. Measure your fender heights, bring the fronts up to even with the rears, and go get an alignment.

305/70's MAY require some metal cutting, can't be 100% sure. 285/75's are the exact same height, just about 3/4" narrower.
I've got 285's in my sig, 1 1/4" further offset than stock, and 1 1/2" spacers in the rear.

You won't have any problems with the 285s, had them on mine with no mods and even had them sticking out father than the stock wheels because of a different width and offset
Here's my latest guys. I go to the tire shop to price out a set of 285/75s. Guy gives me a price & then tells me for $50 more, he can sell me a set of used OEM 18" wheels with a set of 265/70/18s on them (about 50% tread left). Not sure which OEM rims they are, but I would guess they came off about 2010 or so. What do you guys think? Should I go for it & re-up on tires in a year?
