I've been lucky with mine i'm approaching 200k miles on it not quite sure if they are Castech's as I never pulled the valve covers to check if they are then they are the better of the two heads from what I've read I have 862's vs the 706's!
Just some common things that go wrong on these rigs they are great rigs just some common things however
the two biggies Tranny & water pump
some other common ones
cluster gauge
Master power window switches
Air bag sensor
All 3 of these I replaced on my Yukon
Just a quick note as I’m not sure where you are located but if you are in a rust belt state such as myself really inspect the under carriage of the vehicle for rust if you are not chances are the vehicle for the most part should be in pretty decent shape rust/rot wise dealers do a good job of...
Ok thanks I knew for sure 3:42 was standard and 4:10’s were an option I did not think 3:73’s were an option!like mentioned however my friend did call GM gave them the vin and they told him it was equipped with 3:73’s so I’m sure that’s the case thanks
Guys have a quick question for you were 3:73 gears an option on 05 Z71’s I thought 3:42’s were standard with an upgradable 4:10 gears.
the reason I ask I was told that an 05 Z I’m interested in has 3:73 gearing as per GM I don’t have the VIN but the guy I’m getting the vehicle from(friend) he...
Still on the Hunt sorry I have not posted in a bit still searching I looked at the 09 Yukon it was at a dealer they just wanted too much for it for a vehicle that was just ok!I did have a couple of prospects my buddy still has the 05 LS my true Love is a Z71!if I were going to go with that year...
You can also contact GM with your VIN and ask for a build sheet they will gladly give you one that’s what I’ve done a few times before going to look at a vehicle just to see what they were equipped with coming out of the factory.
you can email them as well

Another Castech head question!I’m on the hunt for A NBS Z71 I’m looking at years 03-06 I prefer the higher gears in the 03/04’s as I want to run 33’s and almost all the ones after 04 I see have 3:42 gears though I’ve read the 05/06’s are the best of the NBS lot!
my question is with the Castech...
Thanks Ron you guys are great on here I’m sure I’ll be on again real soon as soon as I can track down another potential they are tough to come by but I’ll keep plugging away!
I messaged the guy with the Tahoe telling him I’m passing on it after I got the car fax I’m yet to hear back from him...
Well the Hunt continues the vehicle I was going to look at is a no go,I just got the carfax back from my friend and it appears the odometer was rolled in 2019 from 170k down to 120k oh well I'll keep looking better safe than sorry!
Wow thats clean ,I thought my Yukon was clean you would never find something that clean here in the Northeast! The Northeast kills these great Rigs with the rust.
The Beltway of Doom for any vehicle they rust away before the engine fails!
Yes indeed that is the problem with these Rigs in the Northeast the vehicles rustaway before they go mechanically I'm sure I have room to move on the price a bit any Rig I find here in the northeast are going to have some signs of rust somewhere I or I should say my bodyman will help me diagnose...
He’s asking $6400 for it 136K Miles I still have to take a look at it the pictures look good but the pictures only tell so much he did say there is some rust starting on the passenger rocker I think it’s common with all of them my Yukon has no rust except some surface rust starting in that same...
Thanks for your reply and thank-you for your service PNW.nice looking forward to go seeing the truck this weekend.hearing from you guys I do feel a little better about the 3:42's yes I prefer different gears but by no means is it going to be a deal breaker. If there is a positive with the 05...
Thanks Mudsport going to look at the truck Sunday!good to hear from someone with 3:42’s running close to 33’s I read a lot of negative about 3:42 gears but as stated I won’t be towing with it I love the look of the z’s,My Yukon sits just right on 33’s albeit it has 3:73’s just don’t want to lose...
So I’m looking for a 2nd gen Tahoe preferably a Z71 I have an 04 Yukon approaching 200K on 33’s with 3:73 gears I love the way my truck sits and performs on 3:73’s!
I love the look of the Z71’s with the nerf bars, roof rack & color match exterior I just love the look of the Z’s.
I have my eye...
So I’m on the hunt for a second gen Tahoe/Yukon preferably a Z71.I’ve been chatting with someone who has a z for sale a 05 He says it’s loaded and tells me it has 3:73 gears! All the z’s after 04 I’ve been coming across have the 3:42’s so I’m gonna go take a look at it price is within range!

I love my Yukon the only reason I’m even thinking about it is the Mileage I know when well taken care of the Vortecs will run a very long time I’m looking at the mileage the Tahoe has 65K less on it just wondering what difference I may see performance & power wise I may see if I did get the...
So I presently drive a 04 Yukon SLT 195k miles on it I’m running 285/70/r17’s and love how the truck sits on these tires since I’ve had the truck for almost 3 years I have not had to do much to it I’ve kept up with the matinience religiously using synthetic with every change.
The truck has...
Thanks Pete I appreciate all of that!I'll read up on it!I did not go and look at the Yukon yet the vehicle is not A denali and I was mistaken about it being an AWD vehicle.I'll have to go down and at least give the vehicle a look!
Thanks Big Kev I appreciate the input I already know pretty much what the 2nd gen tahoes/Yukons are all about there probably is not much of a difference between 04/05 I'll have to check in with my buddy about service records for the Tahoe.
