    Transmission Thunk

2014 Denali XL with 70k miles has begun to make an occasional sound when coming to a stop or down shifting as when making a 90 degree turn. I haven't check transmission fluid yet, but I had an oil change in August at a high-end, I would call it, auto shop. Less than 2000 miles since. They...

Is there a light on the instrument panel indicating pads are needing attention? 2014 Denali XL.

    Towing a U-Haul trailer *concerns*

I think that's what OP is asking. He's probably not a GM mechanic. It's U-hell. You pays your nickle and you takes your chances.

Would you buy your Yukon or Tahoe again?

I got my 2014 Denali XL from my daughter with 55,000 miles on it. It now has about 68000, no problems, but I far prefer Expeditions. Got to say though, it's great looking and Ford is just Bland, year after year after year. We live in horse country and it seems every 3rd or 4th house hold has a...

Would you buy a new old stock 2016 Denali XL?

Guess I'm in the minority. Deducting 15%/year = $48.5k. I'm never paying dealer's offered price.

    87 octane vs 91 octane

High desert. We have two locations and both qualify as high desert, I believe. As others have said, you've got a high priced vehicle. Not wise to go cheap on its fuel. I not only run 91, but only Top Tier. Not hard to find, just look for it. I hope you don't plan on scrimping on oil, too...

Where can I find a less expensive GM warranty?

I was offered a warranty far better than what the dealers offered at $1300 from Pentagon Federal when I had a loan with them. If I recall, no deductible. But call them. You may want to refi with them I paid 1.74% for a new car but have seen rates as low as 1.49%. Beats any banks I checked with.

Any issue with your auto-headlights after tinting windshield?

I put a protective "clear" film on our SUVs when we tinted side windows a few months back. Only change is a green tint look on approaching vehicles, mainly white ones.

Weather tech floor liners kinda sucking

Bought a set of "custom fit" for a previous ride. Driver's side not only didn't fit, but stuck up and grabbed your toe as you got into the vehicle. Never again for that brand

    Duramax in a Suburban !

If the Burb is a 1500 base, wouldn't you end up with an expensive high torque half ton? Do they rework the suspension, brakes, the frame? The 7.3 (best diesel ever) would pull an Expedition apart. The Excursion was a 250. There's so much other fun I could have for 135k! But everybody likes...

Is a 400,000 mile white 'hoe worth anything?

If it runs, I'd buy it for up to 6, sell it here in SoCal to the "laborers" for a K all day long.

Has GMC Denali Name become too common?

I live where my Denali XL is at the low end of the totem pole. As is DWs King Ranch. Mabach is the median. I can afford them, but not all can. You might be surprised at the number of $3M+ homes in default. You can almost tell who is in over their heads by their attitude. Generally, they...

Towing in 3rd gear or 4th gear

I'm not familiar with that vehicle, but have experience towing in mountains as we lived at 9000' elevation until recently. Generally, heat will kill a transmission long before its time. If you don't have an accurate transmission gauge you are at a disadvantage from the get go. But I'd suggest...

What type of oil to use for Winter

We lived at 9,000 ft elevation for many years and many cars and trucks. Just run the grade your car's owner's manual shows at the temperatures it shows. 0W, 5W, 10W talk less important than manufacturer's advice.

Thinking of switching to smaller wheels....

No question, my 22" rims and skinny tires look great. And if I never had to drive it, I'd love them. But I do take them out of the garage on occasion. Special order Michelins, special in that nobody had them in stock, ride very rough. And God forbid I should hit a pothole. About a waste of...

    Decent deal or no?

From what I've read and seen on TV, GM has a real problem moving their "regular" cars. I even heard the Impala could be discontinued. So what's their answer? Make up for it on SUVs and pickups. A GMC pickup can go over 70K and a Ford, over 80. Ridiculous.

    Decent deal or no?

Add to that, tax, title, docs, additional dealer profit (some call it advertising offset) and where are you? MSRP! It seems to be their latest scam. Get on the phone and shop. You can save a lot of time and gasoline. And by not being in the showroom, they can't hold you hostage with trips...

    Dealers that sell extended warranty

If you think the dealer should have made more money off your deal, just write him a check for a thousand bucks. He'll be happy and you'll save one or two thousand to apply to a repair (you'll probably never incur). I've saved enough money NOT buying dealer add-ons like fabric protectant...

    Blind Spot Indicator Question

Is it possible to adjust when the orange indicator comes on on the side view mirrors? The passenger side is okay, could be better, but the driver side doesn't come on until a car is even wtih my Yukon's back end. So by the time my eyes catch it, the car is visible to my eye's peripheral...

    Oil Change

My '80's diesel engine crapped out at about 50k. Olds had the dealer give me a new Target. Dealer charged $350 for the deal. I suspected that was just because they could. But I'll pay that for a new engine any day. (Now that I think of it, that was a lot of money back then!) Olds had a...

Meccanoble wrote, "I think there may be a difference in size with oil pans due to different size engines? 5.3L vs 6.2L ?? I know 5.3 uses 6 quarts. Maybe 6.2 requires more?" I think Swathdiver explained it. I do recall reading, maybe on this forum, that the 6.2 took 8.5 qts., then GM changed...
