Mine the rear diff cover had a small pinhole I assume from rusting over time that had allowed it to slowly seep out so I never just had a massive spot. An expensive lesson for sure.

If you ever see a small drop under any spot don’t drive it till you fully investigate. Mine had a small spot so I said I’ll check it and drove it and ended up running it low. Cost me all this trouble and money. Lol.

Picked it up today. Noise gone. Ended up needing pinion bearing and gears. Main chunk fine. Went ahead and did new calipers and rotors and pads on rear. Also passenger bearing was bad but wasn’t the whole problem.

I took it to a pro after all of my troubleshooting pointed to the rear end. I’m a shade tree at best so I wasn’t going to tear into the rear.

Pinion bearing shot. Had play. Gears had some damage so getting the rear pinion bearing swapped and gears. Also, getting a few other things done to hopefully keep her running for years. The oil level running low looks to have cause the damage.

No this was kind of a paste consistency stuck to the magnet with fine shavings similar to sharpening a pencil.

I had read when you change the fluid you will have small flakes that attach to the magnet. And I had a very small amount of that.

I changed rear diff fluid and had just a few shavings. Otherwise all looked good and the gears looked clean. I swapped out tie rods because they needed it anyways. Noise is still there. Shouldn’t I have seen issues with the rear fluid or metal if there was a problem? Next is swapping passenger...

150 thousand and not sure about rear end work. Have had the vehicle a few years. Pulled pan and gears in rear end look good. Very minimal metal shavings. Level was a little low. It appears the front passenger tie rod is about shot or fully shot. I bought new for both sides will swap them.

Checking front wheel bearings, I found the passenger appears to be bad. And also it looks as though the tie rod on that side is also bad. Ordered parts and plan on tearing into it Monday. Also ordered fluid to change rear diff and check fluid and any signs of wear. Vehicle will be setting until...

Help! I need somebody! Lol. Whining noise in video.

It seems as though it isn’t the rear end due to no clunking or any rough driving. It sounds like a rubbing. The link to the video of the sound might help. I checked front wheels and it didn’t seem that the bearings are bad. Just by rocking them and spinning them. That might not be a foolproof test.

Could be rear end? Could it be tensioner pulley? Sound changes with acceleration as you can hear in the video. When I’m off work I will dive into it a little more. EDIT: it won’t let me upload the video with sound but the sound is a humming noise and when you give it gas the noise gets louder...

7 pin plug for trailer lights

Yea mine was getting very frustrating. That Hopkins harness was the cheapest option to keep all of my lighting controls and it was around 30 bucks at auto zone.

7 pin plug for trailer lights

My wiring inside my 7 pin plug was bad. It was in the actual harness. I clipped the wiring and bought the Hopkins 47210 and wired it in. Solved all my issues.

    Wheels rub on brake calipers

I have a Tahoe and Silverado and the wheels are being swapped from one to another. The difference is one is four wheel disc and the other has drum rear brakes. So I was wondering if the caliper assembly could be swapped from one to the other. Don't know if the bolt patterns are the same. I don't...

    Wheels rub on brake calipers

I got some 16" wheels to put on and they rub on the brake caliper. What is the easiest/cheapest way to be able to use these wheels? Whether it be replacing caliper or a spacer. It is just a factory set of wheels. Thanks.

    2005 Tahoe blower issues

I have automatic temp controls in the front of my vehicle. The blower quit working. I swapped the one out from my Silverado and found it to be the resistor. I am having trouble finding one to replace. I didn't know if there were multiple options. Most I find only have one set of wires running...

    05 tahoe weird blower problem

Did the new resistor you have only have the plug out that went to the motor fan? My stock one has two sets of wires going to it but all the ones I see online only have one. I have automatic controls in my 2005 tahoe.
