Coolant Missing, Running Hot, White Smoke, Burning Oil

I think you understood wrong. It is most likely the heads that are bad on the truck. I have a feeling that the mechanic who looked at it and said it was the radiator cap was trying to let the dealer get out cheap. I picked the tahoe up from that mechanic and dropped it off at another mechanic...

I haven't been driving it. It's been sitting at the mechanic and the I drove it straight to another mechanic and parked it. I'm driving my second vehicle. I plan on doing a complete rebuilt on my motor..I got a quote for $2200 for everything including a cam.

Exactly. I'm ready to find out what is actually wrong with the truck. And do find out if the motor is really not the original...?

Coolant Missing, Running Hot, White Smoke, Burning Oil

I think there was a miscommunication. I bought the Tahoe from a used car dealer. He told me I could take it to the mechanic that he uses for all of his work. This mechanic is a little hole in the wall mechanic down a dirt road behind a camp ground. I thought it was sketchy when I dropped my...

Coolant Missing, Running Hot, White Smoke, Burning Oil

That is what I'm thinking. I took it to another mechanic that I trust to see what is wrong with it.

I smell no coolant at all. And I see no coolant at all anywhere. I've looked. It's "disappearing".

I went back to the mechanic today. I asked him if he could do a pressure test to see if it was still losing it or not and he said doing a pressure test would not show if it is losing coolant or not. I told him nothing adds up because the spark plugs are so corroded and I would definitely see...

That is what I was thinking. I am going to take it somewhere else Monday.

Another update... The mechanic told me he thinks it's just the radiator cap. And also the motor that is in the truck is not the original motor. This sounds really weird to me. If it was not the original motor and the truck only has 158,000, why would it be smoking at start up? It sounds like...

Today, I went over to the mechanic shop where my Tahoe is. While I was there, we figured out the engine is mis-firing. The mechanic put a gauge in the coolant reservoir and it is losing pressure. There are still no leaks to be found. He will be doing a test tomorrow to see if exhaust is getting...

Coolant Missing, Running Hot, White Smoke, Burning Oil

Well, I contacted the dealer that I bought the Tahoe from in October. He had me drop the truck off at his mechanic this afternoon. He is going to pay most of if not all of the cost to repair whatever is wrong depending on how expensive it is because he didn't realize the truck had the problem...

    Cam and stock exhaust

I am debating on camming my 2004 Tahoe but I don't have the money to do exhaust at the same time. What would the truck sound like cammed with stock exhaust?

Okay. So I borrowed a borescope and went in the spark plug holes. This is what I saw. Also, my spark plugs are corroded really bad.

I have access to a borescope for free so I will be borrowing it to check out my pistons. So if a piston is clean, coolant is getting in and that means I have a cracked head?

Okay. So I've decided that I need a new engine after talking to friends of mine. My Tahoe has the L59, the flex fuel version of the LM7. Where can I get a rebuilt motor for my truck from with a warranty?

The smoke is definitely smoke. The truck has water vapor from the exhaust but when it smokes it is a thick white cloud and it lingers for 30 seconds or more. I was hoping not to be told of a cracked head, although I think that it what it is now.

I recently bought a 2004 Chevy Tahoe with the 5.3 flex fuel vortec engine on October 25, 2016. It had 154,000 miles when I bought it and now it has 158,000 miles. I have had multiple issues with the vehicle in the short time that I have had it. First off, when I start it, sometimes there is...
