DFW Newb-- 2011 Yukon XL 2500

Looks great! My STT Pro served me quite well. I just replaced mine with the AT3 XLT since we've been doing more highway than back roads for our biking adventures.

    Which rooftop cargo carrier?

I know the cargo carrier is a bit OBE due to lead times, but I have the largest Thule makes (Motion XT XXL) and use the Rhino Rack Vortex SX load bars. It's been a great setup for weekend bike racing and family vacations. A bit pricey up front but install is quick and easy, it sits lower on the...

    2008 Yukon XL 2500 questions

The 2008 will have the 6 speed 6L90E trans. You also get the 10.5" full floating 14 bolt rear axle with a GMT900 2500 (this was only available with the 8.1L for GMT800). If you don't buy it can you post the listing? Asking for a friend....

Matt's Yukon XL 2500 (Giant Silver Unicorn) Build

Well so far so good, steering is still nice and tight so hopefully it'll hang on until control arm upgrade time. Haven't had a chance to get out for any good pics but going by forum rules snapped a few. The AT3 XLTs are really nice. I can actually hear my exhaust while cruising again

    Tire pressure for bigger wheels

Yes, and that's accomplished by matching the load capacity of the stock tires which take all that into account. If the tires aren't stock or you don't want to convert it, go by GAWR.

Matt's Yukon XL 2500 (Giant Silver Unicorn) Build

LOL thats true! I'm hoping to get another year out of the control arms....will probably upgrade it when its time for that bill. Steering and tires are hard enough on the wallet at once (hell its more than most spend on a cheap lift )

Matt's Yukon XL 2500 (Giant Silver Unicorn) Build

Still might... post install test drive was good, but not happy with how much persuasion it took to get that SOB off!

Matt's Yukon XL 2500 (Giant Silver Unicorn) Build

In need of new tires and an alignment... with ~115k miles, and ~45k of that lifted, figured this would be a good time to update some of my steering parts. Went with Kryptonite tie-rods, pitman arm, idler arm, death grip pivot and support bracket. Replaced the center link with Moog, and a new GM...

    Tire pressure for bigger wheels

Thats the same process i've used for going from P to LT. I dont know why more shops don't train their techs to use the load vs inflation tables... its really not that hard. You have about the same sidewall height and an inch more tread width to start, so ~20 psi should still be good for the...

Somebody really needs to buy this 2500 Burb

Also 10.5" full floating 14bolt axle. If its rust free, thats a solid deal with 150k miles... barely broken in! Id consider it but getting a pickup next year (keeping my yukon xl of course)

    Tire pressure for bigger wheels

It's a pre-set. Going from a P-metric to an LT tire usually only requires a slight increase in tire pressure and is normally a non-issue. No reason someone should run 60+ PSI in an LT tire on a vehicle designed around 35 PSI in a P rated tire. It's actually the other direction where most run...

    Tire pressure for bigger wheels

I always go by the TRA load vs inflation tables. Can use the GAWR or the stock size/pressure to convert to required pressure for different sizes. An LT285/60/20 at 41 PSI has a minimum load rating of 2,220 lb, which would allow for 4,440 lb on each axle.

    2009 Suburban 2500LT (GMT900) - Misc Upgrades

You can gain a lot of tire clearance on these rigs with the "norcal" fender mod, and trimming the front bumper supports, then reshaping the wheel well liner keeping it all OEM looking

    2009 Suburban 2500LT (GMT900) - Misc Upgrades

Thats a solid vehicle! If it has a sunroof, keep an eye out for wet carpet after hard rain. There are a few common causes that are pretty easy to fix

    Suburban 2500 search is frustrating

For the GMT900 body style i prefer the suburban over the yukon because of the front bumper and headlights. 2500s only came in the XL, so I didn't specify, but yeah XL

    Suburban 2500 search is frustrating

GMT900's also come with the 10.5 full floating rear axle. GMT800 6.0's have the 9.5SF, 8.1s have the 10.5FF. I wanted a GMT800 8.1 with 4.10s, ended up "settling" for a GMT900 Yukon after a year of nationwide searching.... also preferred the Suburban over Yukon.

    Wheel downsizing

Just a word of warning for picking aftermarket wheels in 17 or 18" sizes, most wheels are shown as designed for 20+ and usually with deep offsets. Before pulling the trigger on an aftermarket set, try to find pictures in the actual size and offset you're looking to purchase. A lot of the newer...

    Rooftop Tent for 2012 Hoe

One thing I was thinking, with the 270 awning you can have the windows open on the side with the awning, as well as the back hatch and have plenty of airflow, while still being protected from the rain. Battery powered camping fans can also help. It got colder than expected the last time I used...

    Rooftop Tent for 2012 Hoe

Thanks! Our vehicle is primarily used to transport 4 kiddos so eliminating the seats isn't an option, but this awning does spark some other ideas.

    Rooftop Tent for 2012 Hoe

@Tozan any pics of the 270 with walls set up? Of your negatives the only one that applies to me is price. Wife and I would be using it for fair weather overnight mtb trips. My biggest issue sleeping inside was inability to sit up (sucks in the middle of the night when you get a calf cramp.. old...
