Circling back to closeout. I got tired of this problem when backing trailers. Thus, I ordered a new GM brand PS pump. Removed the new Cardone pump. GM brand pump works as it should no issues when turning with foot on the brakes. Neither pump was rebuilt.
GM was $100ish more. Should have done...
Sorry for the delay. Weather and time... Life happens.
Removing the filter helped some. Kinda odd since it's on the return side. I can blow through the filter freely so it's not clogged. Just shouldn't be a filter or GM would have put one there.
After removing the filter, the more I bled the...
Go back and re-read. I said I'll test it Saturday. I'm quite remote at the moment so I'm ordering in parts, which takes days. I appreciate your input but you're welcome to move on if waiting a day or so is too stressful for you. We'll all be just fine either way.
Sorry if this part was unclear. Your question is the core of my problem. Steering at idle with brakes applied is normal for maybe a half turn of the steering wheel and then it's as if there is no PS........until I release the brake. Then it's normal. Steering at idle without the brakes applied...
The original 99 would be the EVO valve. I'm not using it. It resulted in full assist all the time when unplugged. Both the rebuilt and new pumps came with a new valve installed. I assumed it to be a 96 style valve since I ordered the pumps for a 96 truck. They didn't result in full assist like...
Yes, same problem with both pumps. I assumed the rebuilt pump was failing so bought new vs rebuilt the second time. No notable change.
I found the GM valve I bought. Part# 7809221. Unfortunately, it's rusty so I can't use it for testing.
So you are using the EVO valve on the right on a non-EVO pump, correct?
I never put the EVO valve in the non-EVO pump. I did try ythe EVO pump with the sensor unplugged. That resulted in full assist all the time. That sucked to drive but it was consistent and got us home for the Tail Of the...
Good suggestion to check for a vacuum leak. I believe that's all original so it's old. No noise and no foam. Running PS fluid vs ATF. No kinks in the hoses. The original valve was an EVO and it's long gone with the core return when initially converted.
I did order a 1996 valve from GM. The new...
I did not. I didn't have it post conversion circa 2012 for many years. Conversion worked perfectly for a long time.
Variable assist applied sporadically on the Tail of the Dragon will make you change your shorts. That's what caused me to convert but that's a conversation for another thread.
Bought the truck new. Steering box has never been touched. I'm not following the association between play in the steering box and disabling the PS boost. RPM doesn't change the problem. Happens at idle. I can shift to neutral or park, rev the engine to 2k, and no change until I release the brake...
I searched and didn't find this issue. Hoping someone has already sorted it out.
I have '99 Suburban C1500 with a 350. I'm having an issue where my power steering quits when idling with my foot on the brake. Think parallel parking type stuff. The power steering returns when I release the brake...
Once they go out, they will continue to go out. You just don't know "when". The fix is to convert to the 1996 setup and eliminate the speed senor completely. It's not very hard to do. A faulty sensor can be dangerous. Ask my family about the their ride through the Tail of the Dargon with a bad...
I have this Vortec 5.7L in a '99 Suburban (purchased new) and the 5.0L version in a '02 Mercruiser boat. Truck has been reliable with no cap/rotor moisture issues. The boat, which is rarely used, corrodes the cap resulting in significant misfire and difficulty starting. I have several caps now...
Hopefully we'll go back to flat flooring that fits a sheet of plywood with the doors closed, barn doors and a 2500 version. Unfortunately, I doubt we'll see any of those.
Thanks for the info. I found a write up on it and it gets good reviews. I'd add the link but the forum calls it spam and won't let me add the link.
It was a $5K(?) option, adds a lot of weight and widens the rear trac about 5". I just question whether or not I'll be able to get parts over the...
Back to close this one out. The new Delco motor works. The switch was fine. Both the new and old switch work fine.
So what was wrong?
On close inspection, the gear width (not diameter) of the VDO motor is about 30% greater than the OEM motor. As such, when the three motor mounting bolts are...
Thanks for the test info. I'm at Step 1. I used a volt meter vs a test light. I have voltage at the terminals when the switch is operated either way. I ordered a second new motor that arrived today. It's a Delco so we'll see what happens.
I'm looking at possibly buying a 2004 2500 XL that has the optional four wheel steering. What is this option? How does it work? Is it reliable? Can I get parts? What other features on the truck does it change (e.g locking differential deleted?)? Can I swap the rear axle and remove it altogether...
The two rear door switches are the same. The front doors are different. The motor is new and worked fine after I installed it. Came back to the truck an hour later and nothing.
I bought a new left door switch. No change. I don't have an extra driver's door set of switches to try. I'd have to buy it. I'm trying to make sure that is the problem since that switch is a spendy part swap test.
The left rear window on my '99 Suburban stopped working. It's an old truck so I replaced the window motor. Worked great when done......and then didn't work an hour later. Step 2, I replaced the rear door switch. No change.
This was relatively cheap guessing. Now I'm to the driver's door...
This is actually a very disappointing topic. GM abandoned their Suburban customers. I have a '99 and looked at buying a new one. The 2500 is no longer available. Barn doors are no longer available. The flat floor is gone. You can't put a sheet of plywood in the back and close the doors anymore...
I had the driveshaft clunk in a '99 2WD. I greased it with various types of grease looking for a solution. None worked long term................................until I used the GM grease listed in the TSB. That was May 2017 and no issues. You want the stuff below. Anything else and you're...
