I'm adding some small LED lights to the rear cargo area (its dark back there). I want to grab power from the rear dome light but Im not sure how to remove it. I think it probably snaps out, but I pried on it and it doesn't seem interested in moving. Has anyone pulled the dome light assembly. I searthed and googled but didn't find anything.
2015 Yukon SLT

Thanks.

It's a PITA. There are some metal clips that get snagged on the headliner. Also there are metal clips that pinch onto two plastic tabs that are part of the dome housing assembly and that snap into the vehicle sheetmetal. I managed to break both of them when removing mine. The assembly cover and lighting buttons come off as one piece which gives a little bit of access to the housing.

I can take a picture of my removed assembly when I get home.

Thanks. A pic would be great.
Did you have to buy a new assembly/cover?

Sorry completely forgot to take pics. I actually removed mine to install a drop down TV, but if I were planning on reinstalling it I would probably purchase the metal tabs that I broke. I'll try to get you some pics tonight.

Here are some pictures. You can see the three metal tabs at the rear of the assembly and the two plastic tabs that I broke the metal pieces off of. Part of one of the metal pieces is still attached.

CP,
Thanks for the pictures. I now see exactly what you're talking about. From the pics, I don't see a way to remove the assembly without breaking the tabs. Since I doubt I can buy the tabs, it looks like I will have to buy a new assembly if I choose to remove it. $53
I tried to pry out the metal tabs but can get an angle that allows contact.
Any ideas?

Thanks again for the pictures.

CP,
Is there a connector on the back or sides of the assembly for the power wire? 2 wires, hot and ground? Or is it grounded through the metal tab into the roof?

Thanks.

Yes there's a 4-wire harness. If you look at the last picture I posted, the harness plugs in right at the end of the FWD arrow.

I see. That makes sense. 2 wires for courtesy lights with open doors and 2 wires for switched power at all times.
Thanks.

Has anyone had the issue with the 3rd row brake light turning on and off when it want to? I have had this issue for 2 years and the dealer can’t find an issue.
