Interesting had no knowledge of the DOD or AFM i believe if i researched correctly. Honestly im never comfortable being a part of technology thats still in infant stages so to speak. Apparently this cylinder deactivation results in 5% fuel savings? I put on about 5k miles a year so think this turns out to be $2.50 a month in savings. Ummmm yeah ill pass lol.
As for all this new technology i have a 15' 335i and the stupid thing turns off when you stop. Fortunately you can turn this feature off bc imo its so silly. Id rather spend a few more bucks in fuel for proven technology. This is just me

Btw - i found a pair of 2nd row captains chairs :) thinkng about swaping them w the bench. Which is one of the reasons why i wanted a denali

If you have a BMW you know the pain associated with having cutting edge technology :D I just replaced the electric water pump in my 335xi, to the tune of $550 just for the parts.

Seems like a lot more than 5%, more like around 20% better. I think it was this thread I posted earlier where I had a 2015 Suburban as a loaner for a week. 25 MPG averaged over the week with 80% highway driving. My Escalade won't get more than about 17 MPG average on the same commute.

The technology isn't in its infancy anymore. The 2015 I drove was so smooth switching between V4 and V8 mode that I "think" I felt it switch a couple of times when I was trying to notice the switch. I think the technology has been around since 07 on the on the 5.3L trucks, Earlier on the 5.3L cars (06 maybe)?

I think the Escalade got it in 09.

gotchya i was just going off what GM claims.... but even if its not really infant anymore id just rather have a regular engine so to speak. The more they strive to implement newer technology into their fleet the more issues the consumer has a chance of having down the road.

Anyway as for the 2nd row captain chairs i thought i was going to get turns out they were a different color and from a tahoe not suburban :(.

But i tell ya every time i drive the 03 im just so confident in her. Such a great machine for sure.
