After deciding to keep my GMC, 2005 AWD/125,000 miles, and avoiding car payments, I was curious how much you guys think would a good safety net for the big ticket items. Transmission, front end, rear end, rear main seal etc... whatever you guys recommend worse case scenario

I have already replaced Exhaust manifold bolts on both sides so that is out of the way thankfully.

thanks

My 05 YD has 125k miles and the list of repairs has been see below. The only repair I have paid for is the rear main seal. If you price up those repairs you can start saving as ur budget allows.

radiator
rear main seal
tie rods
brake booster seal kit
valve cover gaskets
tune up
injector cleaner
front and rear shocks
evap canister
power steering pump
steering gear seal kit
cam sensor
I may have missed a couple minor items

How much were you charged for the main seal fix?

Transmission/Engine are going to be $2000-$3000 to fix wouldn't they?

That's still only about 4-5 car payments on a brand new one!

Wow, I must be lucky. My '05 with 142k has only needed the following items replaced due to failure:

tie rods (i ended up replacing pitman and idler too):
parts $250, labor $0

water pump
parts $250, labor $0

windshield wiper fluid pump
Parts $40, labor $0

high mount (third) brake light
Parts $40, labor $0

edited to add: of course I've done brakes and fluid changes, but that's normal regardless of how many miles a car or truck has.
