Looking to buy a chevy tahoe, or yukon (denali) in the next few weeks. Are there any years I should avoid? (was thinking to avoid the 2007 as its the first) and how many miles are too many, my dad has a 2001 tahoe with over 200k on it, so I assume I can trust the 5.3 take some serious miles.

Basically looking for stuff I can take a look at when I go to look at the actual vehicles and stuff I should walk away from or issues I should consider and try to negotiate a lower price

I have swapped engines in my bmw, so I'm not opposed to do a lot mechanical of my work if warranted.

I haven't heard anything on a particular NNBS year that has issues. Just bought a 2010 myself. Good luck with your purchase

bumping this up...figured it was better than starting a new post...going to check out a 2009 denali this coming weekend, just over 100k on the clock. Was doing some research on em and found this info in a previous post on what to look for:

-be sure to "jostle" each door while it is open and listen for standing water sloshing around in them. Some complaints about water accumulating inside the rear doors (most complaints were rear right)
-open the rear hatch and feel around real well for water near where the carpet goes under the plastic on the sides and rear... I have seen a number of people whos rear hatch leaks through the rubber boot that is to protect all the wires going through the top hinge area.
-cracked dash is a huge one...
-if you are in the denali, be sure that the cup holder and console in front of the cup holder, both of those spring loaded covers break fairly easily because it is cheap plastic. make sure both of those work, as that entire piece is not cheap.
-there has been a few issues with some of the power seat functions, check that all of those are working properly.
-if you are interested in using on star, check that out.
-be sure they include a SPARE key and fob with the sale.
-if it has navigation, check the last few addresses to see if you can get an idea of where it came from... of course there are exceptions, but geographic areas can help predict the previous owners, weather exposure, driving habits etc...
-if you are looking at 07s and even 08s... it may be worth checking to see if it is the original battery and alternator. You may not be able to tell, but most likely you will... I know a lot of people have had to replace their batteries and have had alternator issues... (just from a search on this forum when I had to do mine!)
-obviously, tires at 91k could be next to new or nearly bald...

sorry if some of this seems silly, but I know how my mind wanders when I am eyeing up a new car... you forget about the things you SHOULD be focused on!

Good luck.

anyone have anything to add that I should be cautious of (asking price is 16k which I understand is pretty low compared to NADA)

09+ gives you a 403 HP motor compared to 380 in the 07-08. I also believe bluetooth is standard 09+. Overall they seem to be reliable from what I read power train wise. Seems a little low of an asking price so I'd make sure the title is clean. If all is good and it's a clean Denali I think you'll be satisfied. I've owned my 11 since April and bought it w 72K miles. So far I've invested in rear hatch struts ($180 range) throttle body/fuel system cleaning ($180 range). I was unfortunately a victim of the dash crack which everyone seems to be or will be with these. Otherwise it's treated me right. Power is on point and it's like driving a living room on wheels. Keep us posted. Link the one you're considering if you can.

I bought my '12 from Terryville Chevy in Bristol, CT., since you were looking in Naughatuck, CT. I was REALLY happy with them!! My sales was Shawn Staketize (sp).
