What is this wire on the passenger side tail light?

I am planning on installing new LED taillights, do I need this wire? I am assuming it’s the ground and it’s connected to my reverse light.

It’s only on the passenger side not on the drivers side.

I didn't have a wire like that on mine, just the main harness coming up from below the bumper that's wrapped with wire loom.

What year? How long have you had it?

Maybe for some dealer installed option or from a previous owner?

Since it’s connected to the reverse light, my guess is that it is the power feed for the backup camera, if you have one.

A quick check would be to check for voltage when the vehicle is idling and when it is in reverse gear.

You might be so right, cause I did have my camera installed by Best Buy and every time I flip into reverse it turns on.

Yeah, I don't have that wire, and it looks like an aftermarket job. Do what @RoadTrip suggested to determine if it is a power wire or ground wire.
