Hi all, first post here. Im pretty much a noob when it comes to car issues/fixes so please forgive me if I get terminology confused. Recently (yesterday) had my booster replaced due to issues stopping my Yukon in heavy traffic. Got it back today and the brake pedal is at a completely different height than what its been since I bought it several months ago.

Its roughly 6-7 inches higher than the gas pedal and requires me to physically lift my leg to be able to even get my foot on the pedal. Im a big guy (350, 6ft) with average length legs but it seems to me that its just a bit ridiculous to have to do what I have to do to brake, as well as quite unsafe as my shoe gets caught on the pedal itself when trying to move my foot.

I looked for a button for adjustment and I do not seem to have one nor can I find any lever/anything to do it near the pedal itself. My question would be, how can I lower the pedal to a less ridiculous height to make it more comfortable and safe to operate my Yukon?

Attached is the best pic I could come up with to show my issue.

Any help is appreciated.

Not sure why yours is that way, but even if you had the button that adjusts, it moves both pedals equally so that they are always at the same height

Thanks for the response.

I just can't believe I am the only person to ever have this issue. Everyone I ask is just scratching their head. Hate to take into a GM dealer and spend $$$ but I might have to. Its great to have brakes that work just sucks that I can't get my foot up fast enough to use them when needed.

Tried screwing in the rod counter clockwise behind brake and didnt seem to do anything to help.

I have never done a brake booster on a GMT900 but on the older trucks the rod between the booster and master cylinder was adjustable.

I would assume they haven't changed much as far as that goes.

If you have the adjustable pedals then you can try this... I found this on another site and take no credit or responsibility for it...

So it is not too difficult to change this if you have the electronic pedal height adjustment. I had the same gripe with my 14 Sierra 1500. If you start with a brake pedal height you like, go under and find the cable that ties into the brake pedal adjuster. It has a plastic cap / coupler. If you unscrew the cap, you can disconnect the adjuster cable. Don't mess with the gas pedal. With the brake pedal adjuster cable disconnected, use the dash button to electronically adjust the gas pedal. Only the gas pedal will move and thereby adjust the relative height of the two pedals. Reconnect the cap. Done. You may have to touch the dash button to get the teeth on the cable adjuster to line back up and reconnect. That said....

CAUTION, WARNING, DO NOT DO THIS! There is a reason the relative brake pedal height is so high. It is because if the pedals are adjusted much, if any closer together, when you mash the brake pedal (say in panic mode) the brake pedal actually travels lower than the gas pedal. So in an emergency situation, you could end up also hitting the gas / brake combined.

IMHO: Rather than fix the actual problem, which is the brake pedal's excess travel, GM opted to put a bandaid on it by making this crazy pedal height difference and, if you look at the right side of the brake pedal, they put this rubber hanging divider on the brake pedal. This to keep your foot from sliding under the brake pedal.... because it is too high. Because the vehicle has a brake problem....

Hope some of this helps.

I had this happen to me. I had to replace the booster and did not pay attention to the fact that the "new" one did not have the spacer on the back---where it attaches to the firewall. Once I figured this out and got a replacement the issue was resolved.
