I just ordered the 2018 wireless charging module for my 2016 Denali. I saw thecheddarnut messing around with the original module on youtube and I tried to do the same. First just removing the magnet and then removing the "repeater". The bottom line is I couldn't get it to work for more than a couple of seconds and that was only with direct contact to the module and not installed in the console. So I decided to got with thecheddarnut's additional option detailed in the comments for the video. He doesn't show any video of installing the 2018 part but he does give the part number 13521066. I went to the dealer today and ordered one after puzzling on it with the parts department and the service department trying to find good wiring diagrams showing the proper pinout of the plug/jack. They could only find the diagram for the 2016 (below). When the 13521066 arrives I will let everyone know what happens.

This issue is a sore subject with me as the manual states the original pad is Qi compatible but GM support sent me a list of the phones that are actually compatible and iPhone X is not.

Update!
I replaced the 2016 plug with the Mouser Electronics plug and pins and installed the 13521066 module I bought from the parts department at the local dealer. It works great!
The module screws in to the same location without any mods.

The attached photo shows the old 2016 plug next to the new 2018 jack and illustrates the incompatibility. There have been others that have reportedly modified the old plug to fit into the new module. The wires do line up the same, but I didn't want to do half a job and have to come back to fix it later after possibly vibrating apart.
The plug was a little finicky to install since I didn't have the proper tool for crimping this particular style of pin. My redneck crimping along with the larger insulation on the black wire made it a bit challenging but I was able to force the pin into the plug on the first try and a little help from a tiny Allen wrench. Mouser Electronics minimum purchase of 100 pins left me with 97 more tries but I didn't need them.
I recommend paying close attention to how the new plug assembly snaps together when you wire it. It comes in the "open" position so you can see the pins are seated at the end of the barrels before you snap it shut. Make sure the colors are aligned properly and the plug it is "shut" prior to plugging it in to the jack on the new module.
I recommend getting all of the proper goodies from Mouser and GM and doing it right the first time.
Good luck!

I am not sure what the magnet issue is, much less why it needs to be taken out for those of you fortunate enough to have wireless charging.

In my case, I just bought an early model 2015 Escalade ESV and do not have the charging pad at all. I have a Samsung 8+ and know it works with GM's wireless charging. My wife has a iPhone 8, but am not sure about hers.
I am here hoping some of you might know how to add it, or even if it requires getting a compartment cover from a wrecked one at the junk yard with one already in it. I assume there is a place to plug it in since the mid year 2015's did come with the pads installed, but I am not sure?

you can get the new module for about 110 online, I tried taking the magnet out and the other piece out to work with my X, only way it would charge is if the phone was laying on the pad when you crank the vehicle. pick it up put it back down nothing, so I ordered the 18 part from dealer for about 130 and modified my existing plug, basically shave off two ears on it and it slides right in nice and tight. works perfect on my 16
