I have some old diodes laying around 1n485b and was wondering if anyone thought they would be safe in my second row can light unit.

My idea is if I use the diode between the center light in the housing (only controlled by the dome light switch up front.) to the 2 side lights in the housing (only controlled by the buttons on the housing.) It should allow the dome light switch to turn on all three lights while keeping the buttons on the unit only turning on there respective bulb.

Side note all can lights are LED lights

My questions.
Has anyone used these diodes in a automotive application?

Will this diode become too hot inside the space behind the unit?

Will this diode be robust enough to supply power to my lights?

There are a couple threads about doing this. I don't know the specifics about your diode, but others have done the mod with no issue at all.
