http://coloradofans.com/forums/282-...-driveline-issues-side-airbag-deployment.html

TL;DR:

Guy is driving his Colorado ZR2, GM’s premier off-road truck and has electrical issues, lights up dashboard.

Side airbags deploy for no reason. Truck will not restart and needs to be towed out.

GM has Raytheon inspect, refuses to release data, after prodding says they will repair once but warned him not to ever drive truck off-road.
GM will not fix issue causing failure to other electrical issues or cause of airbag deployment.

-no damage to exterior of vehicle
-gps data of deployment shows no extreme angle of terrain
-black box no excessive speed or jumping
-driver owner of vehicle is retiree who bought specific truck because it was off-road capable and had a diff/trans that could be towed “dingy” behind RV on their retirement tour.

Wtf gm. Not supposed to take out z71 offroads and zr2 or any truck off-road?

Might want to change all of those commercials.

My zr2 was advertised off-road... saw it jumping and climbing and flexing in all the ads....

Things may not always be as they seem. These kinds of electrical gremlins happen when power or ground wires lose continuity, even for a moment. They can also happen if someone is playing around with an ODB device!

Yeah. I thought those and if he wired anything when he had “dingied” the truck.
I pm’d him for details as I have the same truck for almost the same usage. Low rate back road exploring.
Apparently he hadn’t gotten that far yet. Truck was new, unmodified. No tuner used or one dongle in when he was driving.
He also isn’t the only one. There is a pretty famous vid on YouTube of another zr2. I guess the kelly Bb journalist had his go off while doing 8 mph on a gravel road, and it’s been happening to camaros on bumpy roads and after making their exhausts real loud. (Vibration and frquesncy deployment?)

Problem is GM’s response of don’t go offroad.

sounds like faulty impact sensor's to me, reminds me of this ford truck doing a jump on youtube it lands and every airbag explodes, idiots didn't think to pull the fuse first. not saying this is the case but if your going to take a street vehicle out and 4x4 it, then at least have the brains to disable the safety features first.

I’ve seen that! He sent it! Lol!

Yeah, fuse 18.

I’ve been looking into this more and more. Apparently gm just got in trouble for selling cars to fleets with out curtain airbags. They said it was to reduce costs but it is being accused by the fleets that it was because of unwarranted deployments. I guess it’s a finger pointing game because the fleets are having a hard time selling cars with out the regular appointment of airbags.
This is cars and trucks.

Honda went through this with all their vehicles in 2008. I’m willing to bet gm has a messed up algorithm for their deployment, or the sensor mistakes a certain frequency as the go signal.
Go back to square wave?
