My seat heater won't stay on for more than a few minutes before it shuts itself off. Is this a model wide problem or just an acutely experienced situation and how can I fix it?

If its just the seat heaters themselves, you need to check the ohms on the wires. So raise your set as hi as it will go,get an ohm meter and probe the wires for the lower and upper at the connector.I would have someone sitting in the seat moving around-i had to do that when i found mine.Anything over 5 or 5.5 ohms its junk and needs replacing.Replacing the bottoms is easy the tops a little harder-and tops are more money.I cant stress the importance of pushing the seat or when someone is sitting in it to move around when testing-sometimes it wont show bad unless the burnt wires are touching.

I dont even know what your driving.Look on ebay or the seat shop-if you need both lower and upper, then open that check book up.I replaced drivers seat cover at the same time it was off. https://www.theseatshop.com/store/accessories/ Factory gm heaters are double almost triple the price-i went with seat shops,i think they are built better than factory's.

If it's turning off after a minute or two, that's a classic sign of needing replacement. I replaced the top driver's side for about $50 at GM Parts Direct. If you press the button for just the back and it doesn't stay on, you know at least you need to replace that part. When the back was out on mine, the bottom switch still worked and my seat pad still warmed up without the backrest. The back connects into the harness of the bottom under the seat if I remember right. Go on YouTube for DYI videos and research your part numbers using your VIN on GM parts sites. I agree with corvette744... you've given no info on your vehicle so it's hard to really help you beyond this. Good luck!

I replaced both the lumbar and seat bottom elements from the Seat Shop as well. Bought them through Amazon. Somewhere on the web I found the resistance specs that said the elements should ohm check from 1-5 ohms. Mine were 5 & 9 ohms so I took a chance and ordered them before I disassembled my driver seat. The new elements measured 2 ohms and worked great. When I took my old elements out I was surprised to see how cooked they were. Seems like they could have burned the truck down. The Seat Shop has plenty of videos to assist as well. If your driver side seat bottom cover is ripped up and needs replaced this would be the time to take action on that and the seat heater simultaneously. Once you get used to the seat heaters they are hard to do without! Edit, sorry for the redundancy.
