'18 Expedition Platinum vs '18 Yukon Denali

If I was looking for a large full size suv and willing to drop north of 60k, AND I was concerned about quality and resale value, and reliability, I would be looking at a one or two year old Toyota Land Cruiser or better yet Lexus LX570. Their reliability is without question the best in the world and they hold their value like no other large suv out there. We have owned 2 LX570’s, an Escalade and a Yukon Denali and currently an Infiniti QX80. My wife drives A LOT! The LX570’s gave us the best service by far! Buy 1 or 2 years old for 50 to 60 drive for 5 years and you will still get in the 40’s out of it when you sale it as long as it’s not beat and is serviced regularly. Buy a Denali for 75-80 sell in 5 years and you will be lucky to get in the low 30’s out of it! That’s a hella hit in resale value!

How did you like the QX80? I've thought about upgrading from my Armada to a QX80 but I don't gain any additional space. I will be buying two new cars in May, a Denali XL or Expedition Max (might go Escalade ESV or Navigator L) and a second vehicle to replace my BMW and Lexus GX470. I've been thinking about a 1/2-ton truck but I've also thought about a second full SUV like the QX80, used LR4, LX570 (2015/2016).

I made good money on my companies IPO this past year and I promised my wife I would make it up to her for taking care of 4-kids while I traveled the world for work.

I’ve found the complete opposite and I think my previous expedition handled just as well as the Yukon XL towing. I’m a utilitarian guy, Loved this last gen of Expeditions, not sure I like the 18’ in comparison, I like em built Ford tough, Not ford soft. The prices are out of control I might be buying used next, this truck was stupid expensive new and the payments end soon, looking at today’s prices I’ll keep it and buy used next. After paying it I’m not satisfied, I payed around $70,000 and don’t feel satisfied three years later, feels like i over payed as I come to the realization it’s just another automobile. I wasted $$$ and I could get the same truck used for a fraction of If I did it over. That new shine wears off and you go “hey, why did I fork out almost six figures for this thing again?”.
You raise a valid point regarding cost. When I made my purchase in 16, I also looked at used 15 LTs and prior generation Suburbans and all were very expensive. A used 15 with 45k miles was $43+, while prior gen Suburbans with 120k+ miles were over $20k. As a result, I bought a base LS Suburban 4x4 for $46,800, plus tags tax and freight. It’s still expensive, but at least it’s nicely equipped, and I can get two for the price of one Escalade ESV.

The LX is a 10+ year old design. Not a dealbreaker for some, but it was for me. We had an RX350 and it was rock solid. No argument here on reliability and resale value.

That earlier video someone posted shows how the Ford does not seem to balance the load, "Looks like it is squatting" like the poster said. My Chevy Sub did well with the weight and if anything was high enough to cause the tongue of the trailer to be a little high.
Heck I don't even have the autoride on my Sub, but my Avalanche does, and it adjusts well.

Yah the squatting was terrible in the video. My Tahoe adjusts and it's high but looks great. Had to get an 8" drop hitch. Any truck that rated too tow over 8k better not aquat like the expy did in that video.

Impressive. Looks like there is finally some good competition in the marketplace.
Oh no doubt the Navi looks super nice! Much better than the expedition imo

I like the Esky better but the Navi certainly has a lot more design inside and out. Whether that’s a good thing or not is just up to the market. It reminds me of the QX56 when it was redesigned in 2011. It had a lot more detail and shapes going on than the Escalade. Even though the Escalade is considered “blingy”, it’s always had a more minimalist design in comparison to others.

Not a GM homer post at all - I've had a couple Fords and have loved them both. I just sold an 04 Explorer that gave us great service for a long time.

Now -

I think the Expedition design is a miss. It's not appealing at all. Where the Tahoe/Yukon/Esky looks like a linebacker in a custom suit, the Expedition looks like a pudgy nose tackle in sweatpants. The front end is a disaster. The proportions make it look like a bus. I thought the previous generation looked better, and I am not usually the guy sawing that particular saw.

In short no. Look up longest lasting vehicle studies and Ford usually fairs better. Expedition is the 4th longest lasting vehicle in America (older ones not the new one who knows).
Yeah, but the Suburban is the oldest overall. I'm pretty sure the Tahoe would be right up there as well had Chevy not changed the name from Blazer when they did.
