I have a 2002 Z71 Tahoe 5.3, My converter kicks in and out when i begin to accelerate running between 45 and 50 mph. its been doing this for a while. Seems to do it more often when its hot temp. outside than when its cold. when its below 45 degrees it doesn't do it all. Was wondering if there is a solenoid that controls the lockup and if that could be my problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Yes there is a solenoid that controls lockup. Are you sure its the torque converter not locking up instead of clutches slipping? Whats your fluid look and smell like? Check level? Solenoids usually fail and stay that way (electrically anyway). The solenoid can be accessed by removing the tranny pan.

Got about 80,000 on rebuild, shifts great, fluid level good. It most diffenatly lock up converter. Like I said it only does it when temp starts warming up outside. When engaged at 50 mph and press on gas it starts kicking in and out

Easy first check is pull the wiring harness plug at tranny and look for any signs of corrosion on the pins. Check the wiring harness over for any kind of heat (exhaust) or chaffing damage.

could be a worn tcc soleniod bore in the valve body. as the fluid gets hot and thins out you could have more pressure bleeding off around the solenoid.
