If so how difficult was it and are there special tools needed?

not hard at all. The key to installing it and getting it to lay flat is heat. while you're taking out your seats lay it out in the sun. May also want to lay it out in a large space (garage, basement,....) a day or two in advance of doing the job. Then when you go to put it in you'll also need a heat gun to get the carpet to lay down snug to the floor and work out any wrinkles that may be present. You'll need a knife to cut the holes where the seat belts bolt to the floor and where the seats bolt to the floor.

^^This. Not hard at all. Get a good knife or heavy duty shears. With everything out, you have plenty of room to get around and tuck the curves and trim to fit perfectly.

I have done mine before it was pretty easy once everything is unbolted and removed, the payoff is always nice

Ok thanks everyone. I was gonna get a brand new OEM takeoff from ebay for about $100 shipped. Shops around here want $200 for labor so I was thinking of trying it myself. My rear seats and center console are already removed. So what exactly hold the carpet in place?

Oh ok, I though it would have to be bolted in or something. This is the carpet I was looking at getting. Looks like its shaped up since it came out of a new vehicle.

I would be worried about the shape after it got folded, rolled, and boxed up.
