I recently took delivery of a brand new 2018 PPV. I had a set of takeoff 20" wheels and LX20 tires installed by a wheel shop. I took the Tahoe to my dealer to have the computer reprogrammed for the new tire size. I did the same thing on my 2015 PPV and the dealer was able to do it without issue. After 90 minutes of waiting, the service advisor came back and said it was impossible, that GM could not/would not provide them the "codes" to do it and that was it. I didn't stay around and argue because I went straight from work when they opened and needed to get home and sleep. At least they didn't charge me.

So my question to the hive mind is whether or not this makes any sense, and if it does, what are my options? I've started looking at aftermarket programmers and have considered checking with WAMS, but my preference would be just to get it done by the dealer. Leaving it wrong is just not an option. The speedometer and odometer are about 10% off and that just isn't going to work. Does anybody have any thoughts?

Is it an issue that the PPVs are pursuit rated and that GM does not want liability if the wheel set is changed. Remember that these are not supposed to be sold for retail use.

That does not necessarily surprise me and mine was not sold as a true "retail" purchase. Do you know if there was a date or MY when GM instituted this policy, or do I need to just be firmer in trying to get it done? With the 2015 it was about a four hour appointment after they failed to get it done the first time.

I think the suspension is lowered on ppv this new combo tire and wheel may not work safely. Is there any change available to the tech.

2011 time frame after a dealer advertised that it was selling Caprice PPVs to civilians. Apparently, they civilianized 13 cars and sold them to the general public. There is a thread on gmauthority.com regarding this subject. Suffice to say, GM changed their contracts.

I ended up ordering a Hypertech speedometer calibrator. The VIN was not supported, but when I plugged it into my laptop it said it would send details to Hypertech and email me when that was fixed. It took about two hours and the software was updated. Works great. Speedometer is now correct.

The main issue stemmed from the Caprices not having any US crash rating because they were government only imports.

Also the PPVs have a bit different tire/rim config than the LS/LT but some dealers are a bit iffy compared to others when it comes to that sort of thing.
