So I wonder how many of you even knew about this.

I so happen to ean into this feature when cleaning the truck, so I'm trying to figure out where is the sensor for it or does it use the rear parking sensors?

You say you leaned on it in the rear but were you touching the handle on the liftgate? There is a pressure pad on the inside of the handle for my 08 Denali so I'm assuming it's the same for Tahoes and Escalades.

Also...
Where was your keys at the time? Are you sure you didn't lien against your key fob while it was in your pocket? Sounds funny but I know it's possible to have that happen just as explained...

nope with the key in the step of the lift gate it works, I thought the same thing so I tested and just like that it opened and closed. I guess no one knew this was an option in the truck as is not listed in the specs.

I guess that I'm not sure what we are even talking about. Are you saying that the rear hatch opened automatically? What package vehicle to you have? Mine does not have that feature (Yukon SLE). On most of the vehicles with that option, the sensor should be below the bumper, about the middle, not using the parking sensors.

Do you know if it is a feature that you can lock out in the settings menu?

No setting and I don't see a sensor under the bumper, I did my drop and I routed the lines for the air bag assist and there is no sensor, so the only thing I can think of is the parking sensors.

Oh I have a 2017 LT luxury package and theft package

I've tried to look for it whenever i'm under the hoe but could never find the sensor. However, I did find a thread related to this handsfree liftgate and they mentioned calibration: http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/how-to-disable-hansdfeee-lift-gate-sensor.77403/page-4

Also found this (shows where the sensors are): http://sandyblogs.com/techlink/?p=7571

And this (guy describes location on his suburban): https://chevroletforum.com/forum/tahoe-suburban-25/disable-hands-free-lift-gate-feature-79589/

Did you see this at the bottom of the tech link article?-

Users can customize hands-free operation. The kick function can be turned off, only open the liftgate, or open and close the liftgate. To change the kick function:

1.Select the Hands-free Liftgate Control menu on the infotainment screen under Settings > Vehicle > Comfort and Convenience.

2. Select Off, On-Open Only, or On-Open and Close.
