All I really want to do is have the Tahoe infotainment screen display gps/map images from Google Maps (from my phone) instead of the crappy, POS "maps" from the OEM gps system. I want to see Google Maps on the big screen as I drive, and not have to be distracted by looking at my tiny (in comparison) phone screen, which is probably against the law anyhow.

Ok see if your truck has the option for android auto in the settings. If not have the dealership do the software update on your system. It won’t give you videos from your phone on screen, it it will give you maps texts and other basic notifications on the radio from your phone.

I have a 2016 Tahoe LTZ. Is there any way to cast my android smart phone screen to the Tahoe infotainment screen? I use Google maps as my gps rather than the POS gps Chevy supplies with the vehicle, and it would be nice to see my maps on "the big screen". Also would be nice to watch videos from my phone as well, but the best thing would be the gps.
The only way we have ever done this is with the Rostra 250-8450 multi-camera/HDMI input module:

Here's the product: https://www.adcmobile.com/product/multi-camera-interface-for-chevrolet-vehicles/

This allows up to four cameras to be added, as well as mirroring your phone.

Yup. Went by dealership today. They told me I indeed did need a software update on my Tahoe before I could run the Android Auto. They were too busy to do it then, so I got an sppointment for next week. Good news: no charge!

What you will need for this is Android Auto.

1) download the app from google play
2) connect the phone via usb in the Tahoe
3) press the projection icon on the Tahoe's infotainment screen
3) follow the prompts for android auto to load up on the infotainment screen
4) click the little sign with the arrow on the bottom left of the infotainment screen once it loads

Now you have google maps on your Tahoe!

Also, I thought all 16's came with android auto and CarPlay from the factory??

The GM navigation is little different from Chryslers, I like it. 2012 was the year they ditched the DVDs for hard drives and improved the screen for the 900s.

Just now finished at dealership. They tried to charge me $45 bucks for adding the Android Auto app programming to the MyLink system. I pointed out that I had earlier been told by the service writer that it was free. I even showed them a txt message from dealership when appointment was made, that it was free. Nope, they said, it's not free. Then I showed them the bulletin on the GMdotcom web site that says it's free. Then they said, "Well, the programming is free, but the labor to do the programming is not free." I referred them back to GM web site, which clearly says "at no cost" to customer. I maintained that "no cost" means I don't have to pay labor, either. Dealership finally said they'd do me a favor, this ONE time, and turn it in as a warranty claim.

Wow...those guys! They beat everything, you know that!
