Got a great deal on tires, thought I'd share.

Wife needed tires for her Expedition (I know, a Ford.....

), so I did a little research. Needed some 285/70/17's (yes, it has a 3 lift, I can't leave anything alone).

Compared to the cheap Pep Boys tires she had on before, literally a 200% improvement. The Expy just seems much more stable, more "connected" to the road. As far as wear, don't think she's even got 2k on them in a month - an extra benefit working 10 minutes and 4 miles from home as opposed to 35 minutes and 21 miles.

How do they do on dry pavement? Too much road noise or do they run quieter?

I'd have to compare them very favorably to General Grabber AT2's, one of the quietest all-terrains I've ever driven on. Practically zero road noise.

Thanks for the feedback! I’m trying to decide what to do wheel wise. I wanna keep my 20s on because I love the look. But I don’t want them to get ruined in the snow and I’ve never run 20s in the snow before so I’m worried about not having enough tire in between my truck and the road. I haven’t had any luck trying to sell my stock chrome Denali 17” wheels. I clicked the link you posted and I can get a set of those tires in the size for my 17s for $491. That’s pretty cheap. So I’m contemplating what to do haha. May as well grab a set of those A/Ts and run them for the winter.

I just put a set of 315/70/17 Ironman All Country MT on my wife's truck for $760 out the door mounted and balanced. Quiet tire but very soft feeling and you can feel how heavy they are when stopping. I'm impressed for the price. Doubt I'll get more than 20k miles because they are very soft.

Doesn't beat the deal on my truck. When Mavis bought out STS they liquidated STS stock; I paid $550 out the door for 265/75/16 Toyo Open Country MT tires.

Not to hijack this thread but to piggyback off it... These are the mud tire version of the all terrains Big Daddy mentioned.

I'm content for the price. I might even buy a set for my beater truck.

Quick update on the mud tire version of the tires, they have a very soft sidewall. They make my lifted Tahoe feel like a boat around turns (much like a truck without a rear sway bar would feel). They are much heavier than the old MasterCraft MXT tires; stopping, acceleration and fuel mileage is noticeably different. They get a sway similar to an open shoulder tire on a tractor trailer above 45 MPH.

Overall, I'd buy them again but a lot of people won't like them on lifted trucks.
