I vaguely recall there is a difference in the crank sensor/position of teeth on the indexing ring that is mounted to the crank. There could be other differences that other forums could comment on.

The Gen V L83? It has direct injection too, an engine driven fuel pump with a lobe on the camshaft to drive it. Impressed by its horsepower and torque number, I wondered if the cam would work in a Gen IV block, nope. Computer is probably too different as well.

The L59 isn't a bad starting point but you could probably put in an LY6 with few wiring mods and a tune.
