Have a 2007 Suburban 170k miles and I'm towing a 29ft Travel trailer. My tranny has been hitting 230*. I'm wondering if upgrading to a deeper fined pan https://www.yourcovers.com/transpan_9427.php and changing the fluid and filter would help get the temps down. Also I don't think I have a tranny cooler. Im hopping that the truck can last 2 more years and I can upgrade to a New 2017+ 3500HD Denali dually.

Tranny cooler is a must and way cheaper than a new transmission.

Cool ordered one, how much of a PITA is it to install a deep finned tranny pan on the suburbans? some seem pretty cheap and others are a few hundred dollars.

Also to keep this going a bit anyone installed airbags for towing before does it make a different or am I better off just swap out the tires for LT's and leave it at that?

A lot of guys run the helper spring air bladders inside the rear coil springs.

The crossover pipe for the exhaust is kinda in the way for dropping and reinstalling the trans pan but I have heard it can be done without dropping the Y pipe if you unbolt the trans mount and jack the transmission up a bit.

Isn't that about 30 degree too hot? The 6L80s normal operating temperature range is 160-200 degrees. How much does your trailer weigh and what is your GCWR?

Trailer is 6500 lbs have a weight distribution hitch for 1000 tongue and 10,000 trailer. Truck has the tow package and the GVWR is 7400 lbs. I'm going to install a that transmission cooler and swap to Amsoil ATF. Also install a new tranny filter.

As far as the transmission temps. 230 is hot but not to the point of failure. when it starts hitting 250 for longer then a half hour your cooking the oil. Mine spikes to 230 on hills and drops down to 216 on flats while towing. with out a trailer it sits at 193. I'm thinking fresh fluid a filter and the cooler will bring temps down. I don't think its ever been changed and I've got 170k miles on the clock.

Do you have the RPO code K5L? Your GVWR would suggest that you do. My 2009 has the same GVWR and the trans cooler is right behind the grill, dead center.

I reckon being an '07 that your truck has the 4L60 or 4L70? I don't think they'll take kindly to a fluid change at this many miles but would defer to experts. I certainly don't do it on my other GM cars with that kind of mileage and it never having been changed before. I would add Lucas Transmission Fix and if you plan to tow a lot, just get it rebuilt.
