Now you know why I don't teach the kids to learn to drive in Dad's car. My daughter mis-judged pulling in to a parking space and hit the rear of a parked Odyssey. She was sobbing uncontrollably so I did what most Dad's would do, I gave her a hug, kissed her on top of her hear and gave her a piece of advice she will always remember......Shit Happens. It just missed being totaled by the insurance company by $50. She insisted that the first $500 she makes this summer will be used to pay the deductible. Thank God for accident forgiveness.

My daughters first accident (at 16) was a slide off the side of a steep hill and her coming to rest against a huge tree, almost upside down. Definitely totalled. She called me crying and I'll always remember the words " I crashed my car and it's real bad!". I didn't make her pay for the replacement car. Luckily she wasn't hurt at all and that was the most important part, I told her. She hasn't had a ticket or accident since, 6 years later.

I'm going to let her pay the deductible, then I'm going to take the money and put it back in her account before she heads back to college.

Right now, I'm teaching my 16 year old twins to drive so I'm sure I'll be getting that call again some day.

This is something I am not looking forward to at all. My girls are only 2 years apart (5 and 7) so I'll be buying something super cheap, large, and safe (like a Tahoe lol) and if it's not totalled, I'll hand it down after the older one helps to buy her second car. And they won't be learning in my trucks for sure lol

I bought my daughter the Highlander because she's such a good kid and has always been an "A" student. Even though she has only had the car a few month's, it has extreme sentimental value to her and that is why I am glad they are repairing it. I have a 2003 RAV4 that I am teaching the other 2 to drive in.

It's hard to get mad when I wrecked my first car ( more than once ) as well. My wrecks were more of stupid moves on my part.

No kids, but I can imagine..

I remember calling my father at 16 (had only been 16 for a few months) because I rolled my car 3 times. Fun times.

*didn't have a scratch on me until I climbed out of the car, and fell 10 feet into briar bushes.

Haha I'm only 19 so I had my first car crash just over a year and a half ago. Totaled my 96 2 door Tahoe, bought it back from the insurance for $500, had the frame straightened for $250, and swapped the front end from my dad's 97 burb that hadn't run in ages
