I have a 2016 with Forward Collision Alert and to my knowledge it does not include Front Automatic Braking. The other day I got the alert on the HUD, vibration in the seat and for the first time ever it felt like the brakes were applied slightly. The situation was not an imminent crash just a car I was following hitting brakes to make a quick turn. I could be imagining things but now I'm wondering if a PCM update occurred to enable this function. 2017 models now include both functions. I always thought a warning was useless as it was already too late to apply brakes by that point. Any experience with your systems? What do you all think?

2016s have forward collision prevention. It just didn't work at low speeds like it does for 2017.

My build date was December of 2015. Looks like from reading that the answer is yes to braking assist with collision alert option. No to low speed and pedestrian. And settable alert distance does not affect the active braking assist - only the alert sensitivity.

Would love to hear from GM on this once and for all. If it is just an alert that would be mostly useless because then it is already too late, or time has passed when the system could have started the braking process. I'll take the false positives/marginally close calls if the system helps jump on a truly a dangerous situation.

What model do you have? LS, LT, LTZ?
My 2016 Tahoe LTZ performs as expected. According to GM standard and optional equipment list, the Fwd Collision Alert is Available on the LS, and Standard on the LT and LTZ. But, Adaptive Cruise Control and Front Automatic Braking (FAB) is shown to be N/A on the LS and LT, and Available only on the LTZ.
Also, the owners manual states:
"If the vehicle has adaptive cruise control, it also has FAB, which includes Intelligent Brake Assist. ... The system works when driving in a forward gear above 2 mph."

I'm assuming the Tahoe and Burb are alike in these respects.

Well...after thinking that my 2016 late build Denali didn't have automatic braking (mostly because my [often incorrect service manager] told me it didn't...I can soundly confirm it does. Was going about 25mph today and a car in the oncoming lane was about to take a turn (their left) in front of me. I was watching them and as I was, the car in front of me decided to make an abrubt stop and turn to their left. BOOM. HUD flashes, seat vibrates and brakes are STRONGLY applied. I applied the brake probably 1 second after the truck did and I don't think a crash was imminent (seemed like the truck over reacted frankly) but the feature absolutely works.

Look at the RPO sticker in the glove box and look for the code UHY (Automatic Front Braking) or UGN(Automatic Collision Prep) which replaces UHY if Y66(adaptive cruise control) is ordered
