I'm sure there's a good recipe for an engine rebuild on this forum somewhere, but I've searched all I want to search today...

I have a 97 4 wheel drive Yukon. I'm looking to either buy a GM crate motor from Summit, or Jegs, or rebuild the one I have. Either way, I'm looking for suggestions on cams, headers, air intake, computer tuners, etc...

I use the truck to pull a travel trailer several times a year. It currently has over 225K miles and a slight miss. Transmission is a fresh rebuild. Good dual exhaust and a recently upgraded multipoint fuel injection "spider". Right now it has stock everything, but once it's rebuilt, I want to do some upgrades that will work for my application, but nothing wild, or expensive.

So post your suggestions, or if you have a link to a previous post you know about, that would be super helpful too. I'm not that savvy with forums, sorry. (I'm old enough to remember when none of this existed.)

Seriously, 51 views in 6 days and not one reply... no one has ever rebuilt a '97 5.7 liter engine? Is "do an LS swap" the only answer? No tips on keeping the stock intake but here's a good idea on a cam swap for more torque? To keep manifolds or swap to headers, that's the question... IS anyone familiar with Probuilt engines from PepBoys? How do they rank with Jasper, or a GM crate engine?

Hello! Can anyone hear me? Are you there?

I know your pain lol. They way I'm going with mine is getting a stroker engine from chevy. There is not too much we can do with the LQ9 engines. I read site after site about mods and just said the hell with it and get a new stroker and then tune the ecm. I don't know how good engines from any of the parts places are but for a little extra money the motor from chevy came with a better warranty and is brand new. I'm keeping my old engine to rebuild and maybe sell or just store till I need it and good to keep the original engine. After all our trucks are starting to be more desirable for rebuilding.

Wow, there are people that read and comment! Thanks!

I am considering the 383 route myself. My running engine is good, but has a miss. I have a second engine that needs rebuilding. I'm considering doing it myself. I've rebuilt a 2.8 V6 and a 4.3 V6, so I have a little bit of experience. Enough to know a crate motor is better, LOL. Have you had the ECM tuned? I've read about Black Bear Tuners. I think that's who it was. There's a tuner shop right around the corner from me that has a dyno. I may check with them. Are you familiar with ProBuilt? They evidently build the engines that PepBoys sells. I can get one from them cheaper than JEGS, or Summit, with a warranty, but I'm not sure about their quality.

Thanks again for the reply. I was just about to sign off of this forum for good.
