Hi all

Thinking of getting a pre owned 2015 Tahoe LTZ or Yukon Denali (4x4 config).

I'm coming from a 2005 Acura MDX (143k miles and no major repairs to date) but it's starting to feel underpowered and small with 2 adults and 2 kids (10 and 14yrs but both are tallish for their age!!)

Local pricing on decent mileage (under 20k) is around $50k for Tahoe LTZ and $60k for Denali. From reading around here, the $10k on the Denali will give me bragging rights ;-), bigger 6.3L engine and minor upgrades like taillamps, Denali grill, upgraded leather, LED lights, etc.

Given it's own, is the 5.3L on the Tahoe really that bad? We won't be doing any towing, etc. Or is the general consensus is to cough up the difference and go straight for the Denali ?? However, $10k is still guite a jump money wise.

Also, I read somewhere that on these new models, the NAVI/GPS is subscription based in the sense that if you don't pay for for the App link, you cannot activate the Navi itself??

Lastly, I'm not expecting GM vehicles to have the same reliability as my MDX (I'd LOVE to be proven wrong, however!) but what are the usual $$$$ repairs I'd be looking at once past the factor warranty?

So far, I've considered the GX460 (my in-law drives one) but I didn't really like the interior..still cramped for the most part considering it's a full sized SUV. And I love the back bucket seats on the Tahoe/Denali which, surprisingly, is hardly available on the rest of the competition (??).

Thanks and appreciate any responses!

I think $10K is a pretty big jump too. I recently pondered the choice and ended up going Tahoe.

The 5.3L is a very robust V8 engine. These SUVs aren't race cars; the 5.3 does exactly what it should in the truck. The 6.3 is sort of a freak of nature. Nobody would call the 5.3 underpowered if the 6.3 weren't available.

You might be surprised at the reliability. Consumer Reports has these at 5 stars right now.

It also depends on whether or not either of these have the RPO AVF option (2015i model). Do they have the wireless charging on top of the center console? If one has this and not the other, definitely get the one with it. Wireless charging, hands-free hatch, 8-speed tranny on Denali models, and more bugs worked out by the time they were built.

The new Denali comes with a 6.2L. In my opinion the 6.2L is worth the extra 10k itself. But that's because i like having the extra power on demand avaliable at my fingertips. The extra Denali options are worth it in my opinion too. Maintenance is much cheaper on a gm versus a lexus/Toyota. Mine has been extremely reliable and parts are also cheaper.

Denali I have driven both and the power difference is very apparent. It's really nice to have the extra power when passing or merging into traffic

I drive both trucks. The 460 and the 5.3 Yukon. I love both trucks and when I'm driving on the hwy or local street. If i ever need the power of a V8 truck i know is there. The 5. 3 is more than enough. Even with a full load of gear and passengers(5 basketball players) power is there.

make sure you test drive (for days) whichever one you decide on since buying preowned. I'm sure you've already read uo on the issues, but many and I mean many of these have been GM buybacks due to buffeting and vibration issues. Drive it for a few days and make sure it's good for you.

After my 07 Tahoe LTZ was vandalized i was looking for replacement, 13-14 Denali, than i decide to look 15 Denali, but dealers wanted big bucks so i end up getting brand new 16 Denali with tons of rebate and it was just little more than used 15

Same here..Last October I was looking at used 2015&2016 Tahoes..All had over 40K miles on them plus all came with a limited warranty..With tons of rebates ended up getting a brand new 2016 Tahoe LT for a little more..The 5.3 has more then enough power for me.

Both tow around 8,400. 385 vs GMC's 460 lb-ft torque, GMC 0-60 a second faster

That said, being in a similar position as you buying a 15 recently I went Tahoe b/c it was "good enough" and I am not a fan of the frontend/headlight look of the GMC. Just looks goofy to me for some reason...

I don't think you can go wrong with your choice :)
