Automatic braking - anyone have it?

The owners manual states that for the Forward Automatic Braking (FAB) to work, the Forward Collision Alert (FCA) system must detect a vehicle ahead and display the little green car symbol on the driver's display. The manual also states that the green indicator will turn amber if following a vehicle too closely.
It does not define what "Too closely" really is.
I am curious to know from others that have the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) , FAB and FCA systems on their vehicles, at approximately what distance does the green indicator turn amber, when you approach a vehicle in front of you? My question applies only to when the ACC is not engaged (like in city type driving).
The reason for my question is with my Yukon, while performing a test, I have to be less (much less) that a car length from the vehicle in front of me before I can get it to turn amber.
On a previous vehicle, a 2014 Acadia Denali, whenever I got within 2 car lengths of the vehicle in front of me, the indicator turned amber. Granted, the Acadia did not have the Forward Braking or Adaptive Cruise Control, but it did have Forward Collision Alert.

My truck has it and it never activated until yesterday. My wife set it to far, so the three "bars".
While driving someone cut me off and slowed down, as I was going to change lanes to go around them, the truck slammed the brakes.
Very unnerving.

Wife yelled.

I was startled which is not what you want when doing defensive driving.

Anyways, I changed the setting to the middle bar.

So my 15i Denali XL has it.

Personally I believe the ACC is a mess on these vehicles. Even the 'far' setting is far too close to the vehicle in front of you, and when in your situation a car pulls in front, it takes far too long in most cases to get a decent separation again. Also, when traffic slows way down in front of you, the truck takes far too long to begin to slow down.

There needs to be an update to the whole ACC, etc. system imho. My wife's 2014 Grand Cherokee's system is far better in every regard.

Yeah. I agree^^^ it's either too late and too harsh, or what seems not at all.

It's a very untrustworthy system.

We have it on for two reasons.
1) well, maybe it might work that one time we really really need it
2) if we ever get into a serious wreck and they do a full investigation of the vehicle and they see it was off...buy buy insurance and or hello crappy civil suit from the people who should have been at fault.

3 bars mean it would brake when a car is further away and 1 bar when closest?

Just trying to understand

Yes, bars are there as a proxy for "active" distance

3 bars is the furthest distance, 1 bar is close ... i.e. if following a car on the highway, you'll be closer to the car in front with 1 bar than with 3 bars

For ACC...but does it use the the same gap process for active braking? There is a single setting for both functions?

The collision system is on its own, I don't think it is affected by changing the gap setting but can't say for certain

Yeah, the gap adjust screen has the ACC icon on it...
