Has anyone had trouble with power liftgate closing on its own?

Just got to a hotel on a road trip and the lift gate seems to be "hitting" something and closing after it reaches the max height. I've also tried it in 3/4 mode and same effect

Here is a video https://www.dropbox.com/s/fazb9ldbb4dsget/2016-11-19 22.10.39.mov?dl=0 you can kinda hear the clunk noise when it reaches the top. Sorry its dark and snowing...

I'll try to get a better look in the morning but I couldnt see anything that would be obstructing it

Any ideas? It was working fine this morning when I loaded it up

Seems like there is ice in the jamb at the top or it senses the extra weight of the lift gate due to the snow/ice buildup. I would make sure there is nothing built up in the jamb at the top.

No ice up there. Sat in garage last night and nothing left sitting on the roof or in the jamb this morning. Still same symptoms

It closes just fine, the problem is it wont stay open :) And yes I disabled the power lift.

Watching it a few more times in daylight I think the problem is this bar

bar.jpg

It appears to come off at both the top and bottom and I _believe_ the powerlift thinks it is overextending or something and saying "uh oh" then reverting to close?

Here is a comparison of left and right

bars.jpg

and here is a video of the inside

https://www.dropbox.com/s/gvibmbj7uc3coj5/2016-11-21 10.46.08.mov?dl=0 you can see the "sleeve(?)" getting pulled away

is there a good place to find how this whole thing is assembled or is this a dealer kinda issue?

Check to see if any of your cargo shocks have any signs of oil leak, mine did the same thing when one of the cargo shocks was going out. Replaced the leaking one, problems solved.

I had a rental 2015 Suburban for a number of months with a similar issue. Turned out it was not the actual shock but the plastic cover had somehow broken and would catch upon opening or closing causing the clunk or for it to inadvertently close when using the power function.

As it was a rental, I never looked into it further, but you may have already addressed this or seen it based on your inspection. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Well apparently the plastic sleeve surrounding the piston was completely broken and only option was to replace. It was a 2min job at dealer and they didn't charge any labor.
