High transmission temp

Those of you going over 200 temp, do you do a lot of hard accelerating? Thats the one thing I do not do and might be why my temps dont get that high.

There are safe tutorials on this forum on how to change fluid. If you dont know the history, I strongly recommend not just for current temps but longevity of tranny. Message me and I can help if needed, as I just did mine and its fresh in my memory.

Yes i do some hard accelersting at times. It does get warmer i noticed when driving on hilly roads. A smell also occurs which i think may be a cat problem

I sometimes accelare hard. But I love in the mountains around 6700 feet in elevation. Id assume that less oxygen in the air may have had something to do with the higher temps before the new cooler. But I had do,drive in stop and go traffic constantly this summer while our main boulevard through town was under sonstruction. That meant long idling and starting and stopping periods which always makes higher temps.

I keep smelling transnission fluid coming from the front of my truck a few times ive smelled it inside. i checked it and its not burned or funky looking. im thinking about just tsking it in to have the filter and fluid changed . maybe have a cooler installed i think that there may already be one i have not even checked yet im going to check before i bring it in

Well there is no cooler. i smelled the fluid again today especially towards front of truck and under it. i also have a light grind noise sometimes when going in reverse and somegimes in first gear when i accelerate real slowly

Hmmm.. have you checked out your t-case for leaks? If your Tahoe is an 08+, the t-case was filled with Dexron VI ATF from the factory.

200's are considered normal, but if your trans runs at that temp constantly, over time the temp wears the trans down. Cooler is better for the trans. I installed a trans cooler and in the summer, i don't see temps over 165 and winter it averages around 105-120.

Mine ran 200+ cruising on the interstate towing nothing. Worried me so I put in a trans cooler and an inline thermostat. After adding the level, heavier tires, etc the trans cooler keeps it below 180 and the thermostat allows it to get to 150-160 even on cold days.
