i was wondering if anybody out there can tell me whats entailed in removing the vvt from the 6.2l??? or if i swap in a crate ls3 6.2 out of summit racing, i know the intakes are different, it doesnt come with vvt, do i just need to have the ecu reprogramed to tell it that the vvt is no longer part of the engine?

so i might as well explain why im doing this or asking. well you see i broke a valve spring which dropped the vale and it rattled for a little bit, and then it got turned sideways and rammed into the intake valve hole, and left some nice 1/4inch plus deep gouges in the piston, im not sure if it bent the rod, well instead of replacing the ****** up cam, push rod, valve, lifter, piston, and head i decided to just get a new engine, if i can figure out how to come up with $7500 + for a new engine. ive looked at junk yards and a decent low mileage motor is about $3500 to $4500 and for a extra 3 to 4 grand i can get a new motor with a 3 year 50k warranty. i will upload pics a in a little bit.

so if anybody can help me or point me in the right direction of threads or guys to talk to that would be great! i appreciate any help that you guys and gals may offer.

Have you called Summit? They have a sales and support staff that you can talk to. Google Silverado forums, some of them have more frequent users that get into engine swaps and the technical stuff.

ya checked the silvy forum and read through 15 to 20 different threads on vvt but most guys are just upgrading the cam. i think im just going to go with the ls3 376/525 and drop it in and have the ecu rerogrammed to like the motor. might see if i can through the truck intake on cause i know they have better low end torque, but i dont know what thats going to do to horsepower numbers.

Not sure why you you want the 6.0. The 6.2 is a better engine and a better swap. Are you blaming the vvt for the valve failure? I want to help but I'm just not sure where you are coming from. If anything I would say a bad valve spring caused your entire problem. I have seen it on alot of ls based fleet trucks at work

But from the picture, your head is shot, your piston is shot, and I have seen this before and yes, your connecting rod is bent. Why not just get a 6.2 from a junkyard if this is your only car or use this as an excuse to rebuild the 6.2 you have with a new cam and alittle higher compression?

The heads on the 6.2 are great heads. If you can't do the work yourself, take the block to a macHine shop and see if a .030 or .040 overbore will smooth out the cylinder walls. If it will, just buy a master rebuild kit and a new performance cam. Have the heads shaved for alittle more compression and get a custom tune. You will be amazed how well it runs. And still cheaper than a new engine by a long shot. Just please, don't reuse those rods.

im looking at a ls3 which is the 6.2, its a gm performance 376/525.

All the junkyard engines i have looked at are 4 to 5 grand, for a little extra skrilla i get a brand new motor with a 3year 75000 mile warranty.

Im blamming all this on mybright foot, to many high rom rips around town. Im just not a fan of the factory vvt, if it comes down yo it i may go with a callies 416 stroker kit and comp cams vvt cam and go with dual valve springs and the rocker trunion upgrade.

Right now time is kinda of essence. Plus my engine has 190k +.
