Takata Air Bag recall

Personally I'm pretty annoyed that here you have Honda (and probably others) taking this issue serious enough to where they're asking their customers to park their vehicles and a rental is at the expense of Honda but GM does nothing but send a letter and tell you have a nice day we will talk in the future at some point.

From what I understand, it depends on which part of the country you're in due to the fact that heat and humidity are major factors, as well as others. There are some GM vehicles being taken care of immediately while others have to wait. I believe it's the same with the other manufacturers. I don't believe GM is handling this much different that the others, or am I wrong? I do know they say it will take Takata YEARS to manufacture all the airbags that need to be replaced. You might be careful what you wish for - if they take your rig you might not see it again for a long long time!! It would suck to be driving a POS rental for a year, even if it WAS free.

I mean, ill take a 2016 denali for a rental for a year if thats what they wanna do..... Just sayin

They are doing immediate fixes on the full recalls- pickups and cars, as airbags become available. The SUV's are on a "preliminary recall" and aren't being repaired yet because GM says quote:

"GM believes that the vehicles subject to these preliminary recalls do not pose an unreasonable safety risk at this time and are safe to drive.

The Takata passenger-side airbag inflators used in these GM trucks and SUVs are a variant engineered specifically for these GM vehicles, and the inflators are packaged in the instrument panel in a way that minimizes exposure to moisture from the climate control system. Importantly, these vehicles have features and attributes that minimize the maximum temperature to which the inflator will be exposed.

As of May 2016, GM has had zero reports of inflators rupturing in these vehicles since the start of production. This covers an estimated 44,000 deployments."

I'd say you're pretty safe , with 44,000 airbags deployed so far and 0 ruptures, but who knows.

So, this "packaging in the instrument panel" and "features and attributes that minimize the maximum temperature to which the inflator will be exposed" isn't affected at all by the cracks and, in some cases, missing chunks in the dash (instrument panel)?

This guy gets it....cheap ass cracked dashes everywhere that they deny a problem exists, then an airbag problem that they deny exists. Even if the statistics prove they are ok, the damn company that made them isnt ok with them so why should the company who bought and used them be ok with it.....#corporategreed #yourproblemnotmine

agree with the last two posts.....I'm a GM guy through and through but stuff like this really concern me. If the other automakers didn't also have their issues I'd probably "jump ship" but the grass isn't necessarily greener anywhere else.
