I just purchased Torin's Big Red 3T floor jack. I am unable to lower it slowly. From reading various forums, it seems that they use a ball type valve, and the better jacks use a needle type which gives better control of lowering. However, as far as I can tell, all I can find are Torin jacks, or rebranded Torins, or even cheaper jacks.

1) Is there a fix for this problem? The 3T is heavy, and I don't want to keep returning until I find one that works. Also, I'm concerned that if I do find one that works, will it begin to cause trouble in the future? If I can fix it easily, I'll probably be ok with that.

2) Is there a source of higher quality jacks?

lol I have an aluminum one of those from HF.... for the price its not bad. roller and wheels could be better but not bad
Wow that that good sale price! $129 down from 199. Looks heavy though. I picked up their aluminum 3 ton with a 20% coupon. Great jack with great control. Easy to push around the garage and driveway. Lifts my Tahoe with no problem.

$129 is their normal price. The $199 is a "compare to similar models from other manufacturers" kind of price. You can use a coupon to bring it down another 20%. There is literally always ones available. Sometimes 25%

When it comes to floor jacks and jacks stands I prefer HEAVY.
