Ive had my tahoe 6 years now. I have to roll the window down to see to back up at night. Don't know the %'s but never been bothered about it. Never been stopped either.

Interesting. Looked up alabama tint laws.

Cars can only have 32% all around and only upper 6" of windshield.

Trucks/vans/suvs are 32% front doors, any level behind the driver, upper 6" of windshield.

Supposed to have certification sticker between glass and film on EVERY tinted window.

Here in NJ any tint on the front windows are illegal. Why? Because years ago a state trooper was shot and killed when he walked up to a car with tinted windows. So the typical NJ knee jerk reaction was to ban tinted windows on the people of NJ. But if you are in law enforcement, your issued vehicle can have the front windows painted black if you want. You know, one set of laws for them, and one set of laws for us.

With that said I've had tinted windows for over 15 years and got pulled over maybe 3 times for that offense. Also helps that I have a get out of jail free card so cops usually let me go without a ticket. I think it really matters what you drive. If you're rolling around in an all black civic with white wheels, you're probably more likely to get pulled over. As per inspection, we only check emissions so you can roll up with a cracked windshield, no headlights, and tints and still pass if you're not polluting the environment.

Just a tip, get tint that has heat rejection. It will keep the interior cool and prolong the appearance. It's usually tint with ceramic, no idea what that means but get it. I have to get mine redone cause I just have dyed film and it's terrible.
Yeah, Jersey sux when it comes to window tint. I have light tint on my fronts, you can see through them and the same tint is on the rears, over the top of the factory tint. My gf was stopped once by a bored local cop for tinted windows. Really??!! No ticket tho. Maybe he wanted to check her out more!

I went darker than legal, but not blacked out. I'm right on the state line and the state across the river is much more strict. Looked into it and of course asked the installer their opinion as well.

I live in IL. any color on the back is fine and 35% on the front is legal. I added 20% over the top of the stock tint and then did 5% on the fronts so it matches the rest of the vehicle. I see so many vehicles with non-legal tint now that I have it. If you get pulled over for something else, just put both your front windows all the way down so they have don't ask about it.
